This experiment can be done using a shower with a hose.

jet shower

If you hang such a shower or just hold a hose in your hand, and the shower head is above the bathtub and let the water in, you can observe how the shower deviates in the direction opposite to the flowing jets. As long as water flows from the shower, it will hang in an inclined position. The water pressure in the shower spray acts in all directions. But where there are holes, the water rushes out, and on the opposite side, the water continues to press and deflects the shower.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Recognition of dogs by nose pattern 18.07.2019

Chinese startup Megvii, which specializes in image recognition using artificial intelligence, has developed a biometric dog identification service. During its work, more than 15 thousand lost pets have already been returned to their owners. The organization also plans to create a system that allows the government to track unscrupulous pet owners and punish them.

Megvii is a Chinese government contractor and has been involved in building a facial recognition system to spy on Chinese citizens. Now it's the turn of their pets. To enter your dog's details into the application, you need to take a close-up photo of his face from several angles. The nose of many pets is not only an indicator of their health, but also has a unique skin pattern, similar to human fingerprints. Thanks to this, the accuracy of identification in the new pet recognition system reaches 95% and will only grow.

Significant advantages of the application from Megvii are simplicity, cheapness and lack of stress for four-legged human friends. Unlike conventional animal identification systems, there is no longer a need to put on special collars with trackers or implant chips under the skin. There are now 91 million cats and dogs living in cities in China, and the number has increased rapidly in recent years.

The developers plan not only to reunite owners with lost pets, but also to track those dog owners who walk them without muzzles or do not clean up feces after them.
