The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Attitude towards people can be changed 18.10.2013

When we are sad, it seems that everything around us is bad. But when we feel good, it seems that the whole world laughs with us. These mechanisms for projecting one's emotions onto the external world are well known to scientists, who consider this a manifestation of the ability to establish contact with others.

However, in some cases, when interpreting the emotions of others, mistakes occur - the so-called egocentric displacement in the emotional sphere. Italian researchers argue that in order to avoid such errors, it is necessary to activate a special part of the brain, which is still poorly understood.

Neuroscientist Giorgia Silani from the SISSA Institute (Italy) reported that they managed to find a brain region involved in the process of interpreting emotions. In their experiment, scientists for the first time measured the likelihood with which people are able to make a mistake. With the help of magnetic resonance imaging, it was possible to identify the part of the brain that was most active when the subjects made mistakes in the interpretation of emotions. The area in the right supramarginal gyrus turned out to be responsible.

In one phase of the trial, the scientists tried to block activity in this area of the brain through transcranial magnetic stimulation. During the period when the activity of neurons in the right supratrial gyrus was turned off, the subjects began to make more mistakes in interpreting other people's emotions. That is, the significance of this area in the recognition of emotions has been confirmed.

According to scientists, the experiment showed the physiological reasons for such highly active social mechanisms as the ability to correctly assess the emotions of other people. Future research will help understand how these abilities develop and fade over time, as well as how to properly understand the emotions of others. This will prove useful for the treatment of mental disorders in which people are unable to correctly interpret the emotions of others, thereby experiencing difficulties with interpersonal communication.
