ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Inclusion of powerful seven-element LED indicators. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Digital technology LED indicators of the ALS321, ALS324, ALS333 series and many others have good lighting characteristics, but in the nominal mode they consume quite a lot of current - about 20 mA for each element. With dynamic indication, the amplitude value of the current is several times greater. The industry produces decoders K514ID1, K514ID2, KR514ID1, KR514ID2 as BCD-to-seven-element converters. They are unsuitable for working together with the indicated indicators with a common cathode, since the maximum allowable current of the output key transistors of the K514ID1 and KR514ID1 decoders does not exceed 4 ... On fig. 1 shows an option for matching the K514ID1 decoder and the powerful ALS321 A indicator with a common cathode. For example, the diagram shows the inclusion of the element "a". The remaining elements are switched on through similar transistor-resistor targets. The output current of the decoder does not exceed 1 mA at a supply current of the indicator element of about 20 mA.
On fig. 2 shows the matching of the ALS321 B indicator (with a common anode) with the KR514ID1 decoder. This option is advisable to use in the absence of the K514ID2 decoder.
On fig. 3 shows a circuit for turning on an indicator with a common cathode.
The circuits shown in the figures for switching on powerful indicators are also suitable for dynamic indication. The common cathode of the indicator elements (Fig. 1 and 3) is connected to the collector of the switching transistor of the npn structure, the emitter of which is connected to the common wire of the device. In the node according to the diagram in Fig. 2, the common anode of the indicator is connected to the collector of the switching pnp transistor, and its emitter is connected to the positive wire of the power source. To increase the brightness of the glow of the indicator elements in dynamic mode, you can slightly increase the supply voltage of the indicators or reduce the resistance of the resistors in the emitter circuit of the transistors. The amplitude value of the current through the indicator elements will increase, but the average value will remain within acceptable limits. KT315B transistors can be replaced by any of the KT315, KT3102, KT503 series, and KT361B transistors - KT361, KT3107, KT209, KT501, KT502. The decoders KR514ID1, KR514ID2 are similar to the decoders K514ID1, K514ID2, respectively, and differ only in the housing design, therefore, in fig. 1 shows the pin numbering for K514ID1, and in fig. 2 - for KR514ID1. The matching option shown in Fig. 1, when the ambient temperature and supply voltage change, the brightness of the indicator glow can change significantly. These changes will be less if the resistor R1 is included in the collector circuit of the transistor VT1. Author: E. Yakovlev, Uzhgorod; Publication: N.
