I offer radio amateurs who have a video monitor "Electronics MS 6106" from the domestic PVC "Electronics MS 0585" a conversion method that allows it to be used as part of an IBM-compatible personal computer (PC).

As you know, a monitor, especially if it is of high quality, is one of the most expensive components of a PC. Using a converted monitor will allow a radio amateur, who independently completes an IBM-compatible PC and is limited in funds, to spend money primarily on purchasing a "powerful" system unit. Over time, such a monitor, of course, will need to be replaced with a more advanced one.

The proposed revision of "Electronics MS 6106" is relatively simple and quite within the power of even a novice radio amateur. All designations of elements are given according to the factory circuit diagram.

The scan block (BR) undergoes the greatest changes. First of all, it is necessary to increase the horizontal scanning frequency from 15 to 30 kHz. To this end, the capacitor C27 (4700 pF) in the master oscillator is replaced with a capacitor of the same type with a capacity of 2400 pF, and C41 (0,01 microfarad) in the output circuit with a capacitor of the same type with a capacity of 2200 pF. You should also replace R67 (3 ohms) with a 51 ohm resistor. In order for the frame sync pulses from the input connector to arrive at the frame scan unit, the jumper connecting pins 1 and 2 on the block board is soldered to pins 2 and 3. It is also advisable to replace the KD411BM (VD16) with two KD226D diodes connected in series (they are more reliable) and connect the common wire of the unit to the metal chassis of the monitor (this will eliminate the possible kink of vertical lines in lines with long text).

Refinement of the high voltage block (HVN) comes down to removing (in order to tune the HVN to a frequency of 30 kHz) capacitors C1 (6800 pF), C3 (1000 pF) and replacing R1 (3 ohms) with a 27 ohm resistor. The latter is required to limit the voltage at the anode of the kinescope to an acceptable value.

To ensure the correct binding of the video signals of the primary colors to the black level in all three channels A1-AZ of the video amplifier unit (BVU), capacitors C5 (0,01 microfarads) are replaced with oxide capacitors with a capacity of 15 microfarads with a nominal voltage of at least 12 V (the conclusions of their negative plates are connected to a common wire). And in order for horizontal sync pulses to enter the horizontal scan unit, regardless of the video signal, the jumper connecting pins 2 and 3 on the BVU board is soldered to pins 1 and 2.

Finally, if necessary, adjust the convergence of the rays with the help of ring magnets on the neck of the kinescope, as well as focusing and geometric distortion of the raster by turning the sliders of the corresponding tuning resistors.

The converted video monitor works stably with most programs in the MS DOS environment. For example, the image panels of the popular Norton Commander shell program are reproduced without color distortion and are quite clear.

True, there are also drawbacks in the monitor's operation: the image sizes become somewhat smaller (it occupies about 2/3 of the screen area), which causes the resolution to suffer. It should also be borne in mind that the converted monitor cannot work with programs that use horizontal sync pulses of positive polarity for synchronization (for example, with the WINBIOS computer configuration program from AMI). The image in this case is not synchronized.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>
