The original scheme of the combined passive node for volume and tone control in a transistor amplifier is shown in fig. 5 [4]. Here, the variable resistor R3, together with the circuits R1C1, R2C2, R4C4, forms a correction adjustment circuit at higher frequencies. Chain C5R5, connected to the output of the volume control R7, provides low-frequency correction. A slight rise in the frequency response at lower frequencies in the position of minimum attenuation is created by resistor R2. The depth of the low-frequency correction is regulated by the resistor R6.

Wide ranges for adjusting the frequency response now seem redundant, so it makes sense to exclude capacitor C2, replace capacitor C1 and resistor R1 with a jumper, and reduce the resistance of the variable resistor R6 to 100 kOhm. After such refinement, the decrease in the frequency response in the region of higher frequencies is eliminated, and the frequency response adjustment range at lower frequencies is narrowed to 10 dB.

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. The brain recognizes touch even outside the body 14.12.2019

A new study has proven that we can feel how an object in our hands comes into contact with something else as clearly as if it were part of our body.

Scientists have found that during the performance of simple, everyday operations, the human brain behaves extremely strange. When you pick up a stick and hit it on, say, a fence, a special set of neurons is activated. They help determine exactly what has happened through certain vibration patterns that run through our nervous system.

Of course, if the object in our hands touches something, we will feel it due to the difference in pressure. However, the new work shows that with the help of the amazing abilities of the brain, we can also accurately determine the location of the contact of an object and a surface - despite the fact that these are two completely alien objects for us.

The project was initiated by neurobiologist Luc Miller from the University of Lyon in France. In 400 different tests, Miller and his colleagues had 16 study participants hold wooden rods in their hands and asked them to determine when the tester touched them twice in places close to each other. The volunteers did surprisingly well: they could recognize two close touches 96% of the time!

The EEG scans that were taken during the study revealed amazing details. It turned out that to detect the zone of touch, the brain uses neural mechanisms that are almost identical to those that allow you to recognize touches on the body's own skin. Scientists believe that we can accurately determine the junction of two objects, as long as at least one of them continues to vibrate. According to the computer model, this happens in just 20 milliseconds.

The most striking example of such a connection in everyday life is blind people who literally “feel” the world around them with a cane, which allows them to navigate the terrain. But, of course, the main application of the data of the new study will be among engineers involved in the manufacture of prostheses. The better we can deceive our own brain, the more complete will be the illusion that instead of an artificial limb, a person uses a real one. Perhaps in the near future, neuroprostheses will become so perfect that even a person with a completely amputated limb will be able to experience at least part of the spectrum of tactile sensations thanks to mechanical augmentation.
