In the manufacture of parts, it is sometimes advisable to use hard soldering - copper-zinc or silver, to ensure high bond strength. In this case, the parts are heated to 800-950°. Gasoline blowtorches are not always hot enough for soldering. It is inconvenient to use them indoors, in addition, they are unsafe in terms of fire.
We propose to make a burner that runs on liquefied gas (propane-butane mixture), which is sold everywhere in cans for portable stoves with a capacity of about 1 liter. Its flame has a temperature of about 1900 °, and the part is easily heated.
The burner, together with the valve, is screwed onto the gas cartridge, and it is very convenient to use it (Fig. 1).

To make a burner, you need to purchase a valve with a hose for a portable stove. It is sold in shops and kiosks selling gas cartridges. The valve must be disassembled, heated on a gas stove and soldered off a metal tube connected to a rubber tube. We won't need them. In addition, you need to purchase a primus nozzle and a piece of copper or brass tube with an outer diameter of 6 mm.
The burner (Fig. 2) consists of a tube 1, an insert 2, a supply tube 3 with a nozzle 4 soldered at the end. The supply tube is soldered into a valve that is screwed onto a gas cartridge.

At the end, solder a sawn primus nozzle into the feed tube. This nozzle has a hole with a diameter of 0,25 mm. To check the alignment of the nozzle and the feed tube, you can use a straight piece of thin string 30 mm long. The nozzle from the gas stove is unsuitable, as it has a too small hole (diameter 0,1 mm).
The insert (Fig. 3) must be machined from steel. It has 10 holes with a diameter of 1,8 mm, which are needed to suck in the air necessary for combustion and at the same time to reduce the heating of the central part of the liner and, therefore, the supply tube and nozzle.

Bend the tube (Fig. 4) from sheet steel 0,6 mm thick and solder the joint with copper-zinc solder, which has a high melting point. Make the inner diameter such that the insert 2 enters with force. At a distance of 18 mm from the edge, drill 4 holes with a diameter of 4 mm in the tube for additional air suction into the burner. Insert the insert into the tube so that these holes are fully open. Bend the supply tube at an angle of 45 ° and solder the other end into the valve. After that, assemble the burner and adjust it.

Close the valve and screw it onto the gas cartridge. Light a match, bring it to the burner and turn the valve handwheel at a small angle to release the gas. If we now slightly increase the gas supply, the flame will go out.
This means that too much air is sucked into it. Move the insert forward 1 mm so that it partially covers the holes in the tube. Try again. The burner began to work better, but still it will go out when the gas supply is increased. By moving the liner in the tube, select such an overlap of holes that ensures maximum combustion intensity.
A properly adjusted burner produces a buzzing blue flame.
