Those who are interested in amateur radio design or repair of consumer electronics increasingly have to deal with surface-mounted printed circuit boards. And here, in addition to purely technical tasks, there are often difficulties in acquiring the necessary components. Even in Moscow, it is not so easy to buy, for example, capacitors of the required ratings in small quantities.

Therefore, in case of difficulties in purchasing PM capacitors (PM - surface mounted), I manufacture them myself from the usual KM series. These capacitors differ from PM only in shape and somewhat larger dimensions, the presence of soldered wire leads and coating with a protective compound (usually green).

It would seem that the whole task comes down to tapping the conclusions. In fact, the way it is, only attempts to solder them without first removing the compound lead to the failure of the capacitor. This is explained by the fact that the capacitor plates are very thin and quickly dissolve in the solder, and the compound is very heat-resistant and requires too high a temperature and an excessively long time to destroy. Therefore, the leads are separated together with the conductive plates.

Attempts to mechanically remove the compound layer were unsuccessful. Destroying the protective compound turned out to be quite simple using a common tool for removing old paint from a car body. This tool (TU 6-00-00210051-025-96), manufactured by the Research Center "Khimprom" in Volgograd, can be bought in auto cosmetics stores.

Observing the precautions, according to the instructions for using the product, it is poured into a small dish (if it is plastic, make sure that it does not dissolve in this case) and the necessary capacitors are immersed there. They are kept in liquid for at least six hours, stirring the contents from time to time.

After that, take out one capacitor with tweezers, rinse it with cold water, pry off the compound layer with a knife blade and try to remove it. If it leaves with considerable effort, the exposure of the capacitors in the agent must be extended for another hour or two.

When the compound is completely removed from the capacitor, the leads are quickly soldered with a well-heated soldering iron. When mounting the capacitor on the board, you should use low-melting solder. The capacitor prepared in the described way survives 3-4 solderings without a noticeable deterioration in electrical and mechanical performance.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Remains of ancient giants found 16.07.2017

Chinese archaeologists have discovered in the province of Shandong (in the east of the country) the remains of extremely tall people for their time, whose height reached 1,9 meters.

"We came to this conclusion after studying the bones. In life, they were undoubtedly even higher," says Fang Hui of Shandong University. "I think this physique is due to the presence of abundant food sources that these people had access to."

The people whose remains were discovered by archaeologists lived on the territory of modern China about five thousand years ago. The discovery was made by scientists during excavations that have been ongoing since 2016 near the city of Jinan (the administrative center of Shandong). Experts believe that the excavated remains belong to representatives of the Longshan Neolithic culture, who in ancient times inhabited the Yellow River basin.
