It happens that during installation or repair work, the soldering iron “rests” for a long time, lying on a stand. This leads to premature burnout of the sting. It will be possible to prevent this if at such moments less voltage is supplied to the soldering iron. And for this you need to equip the stand with an automatic machine, the diagram of which is shown in Fig. 1. Similar stands were proposed earlier in [1, 2].
In the shown position of the contacts of the push-button switch SB1 and the contacts K1.1 of the relay K1, the soldering iron connected to the socket X1 is supplied with full supply voltage. This mode is necessary during soldering.
When the soldering iron is placed on the stand, the contacts of the pushbutton switch open. But the relay does not let go, because the timer comes into action - the charged capacitor C1 is slowly discharged through the resistor R2 and the emitter junction of the transistor. If the soldering iron is not used for about six minutes, the relay will release, contacts K1.1 will open. The voltage to the soldering iron will be supplied through the VD5 diode, due to which the power dissipated on it will decrease.
As soon as the soldering iron is removed from the stand, the contacts of the push-button switch will close, the relay will work and close the VD5 diode with its contacts. The soldering iron will again be supplied with full supply voltage.
Automation can be equipped with an existing stand. To do this, it is necessary to attach a push-button switch and a metal lever with a corner for a soldering iron tip to the front post (Fig. 2). When the soldering iron is removed, the lever must be securely lifted with the switch button.
Relay K1 - RES9 passport RS4.529.029-08 or RS4.529.029-018. Capacitor C1 - K50-ZB, C2 - K50-24 or K50-33. In place of the VT1 transistor, you can install, in addition to that indicated on the diagram, any of the KT815, KT817, KT819 series, but the first two must be equipped with a small radiator

Compared to its peers and predecessors, the PVN012A family has half the AC on-state resistance (Rdd(on)) and 37,5% higher AC load capacity at 100% duty cycle.
The new relay series is also rated for the maximum impulse (overload) current. With low channel resistance and high current carrying capacity combined with a compact housing, the PVN012A relays outperform traditional electromechanical relays.
They occupy a smaller area, are rated for high isolation voltage between input and output, have a stable open resistance throughout the entire service life, high sensitivity and high reliability, and are free from contact bounce.
The new relays are rated for 20 V, with an on-state resistance of 50 mΩ AC and 15 mΩ DC. The current carrying capacity is 4 A AC and 6 A DC. The insulation test voltage between input and output is 4000 V. The new relays are available in lead-free 6-pin DIP and SOIC packages and on tape.
