This design considers an integrated voltage controlled intermediate frequency oscillator (VCO) that can relay audio from a cell phone to the FM broadcast band. By placing the phone's speaker near the microphone, the user can use the phone as a speakerphone while driving.

The circuit in Figure 1 can relay the audio signal from a cell phone to the FM broadcast band. When the user places the phone's speaker near the microphone, he or she can listen to cell phone audio through the car's FM receiver. This can be used as a built-in speakerphone in a car.

IC1 is an integrated voltage controlled intermediate frequency oscillator (VCO) with a differential output that supports a frequency range from 70MHz to 150MHz, covering the entire FM band. Choke L1 sets the VCO's mid-range tuning range. Select the value of L1 such that the effective inductance from the IND pin to GND results in an output frequency of 100MHz. This frequency corresponds to the middle of the FM band. The inductance value of 270nH covers the tuning range from 97MHz to 128MHz. Next, adjust the resistor RADJ to tune the VCO to the desired FM station frequency. Resistors R2 and RADJ displace the internal varactor. FM stations are located at odd intervals in 0.2 MHz steps. The VCOs provide differential output power down to -8dBm. Refer to Chapter 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 15 of the FCC for current regulations governing the harmful effects of radio signals on the environment. The transmission must be below 250µV, measured at a distance of 3m.

The electret microphone is biased through resistor R1. The audio signal of an AC-coupled microphone modulates the VCO frequency by varying VTUNE. The output frequency of the VCO will correspond to the volume or amplitude from the microphone. Audio signal about 20mVRMS (rms operating voltage in volts) is adequate to maintain functionality. Do not overmodulate the VCO or the FM receiver will be distorted as a result. VCO overmodulation also attenuates the carrier signal by radiating energy into an unused receiver band. In Figure 2, the microphone and resistor R1 are replaced by a direct connection to the cell phone's audio out port. Cell phone volume should be adjusted for optimal performance. A direct connection to a cell phone will eliminate background noise from the microphone.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

NASA to pay 18000 euros for two months in bed 03.06.2023

The European Space Agency is conducting a new experience. Participants need to spend two months lying down. For this they will pay 18 thousand euros.

The idea of getting paid to stay in bed for two months may seem too good to be true. But this is exactly what the European Space Agency (ESA) proposes. They conduct an experiment with 12 volunteers who, as part of a new study, are in beds tilted 88 degrees below the horizontal for 6 days with their legs up.

Among the challenges for volunteers are also: eating, showering, toileting, riding special bicycles (located at the bottom of the bed), medical tests - all in the supine position throughout the study. Participants in the experiment will receive 18 euros each.

Everything is simple - for astronauts. ESA hopes that the findings will help explore potential countermeasures to the changes that the human body is undergoing in space. Now 12 male volunteers aged 20-45 are taking part in the study. It runs from April to July 2023. The next one will be held from January to April 2024.

Scientists also believe that the results of the study can also be useful for developing better treatments for the elderly and patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and osteoporosis.
