In the broadcasting range of 88 ... 108 MHz (VHF-2 or, as it is also called, the FM band), many radio stations are currently operating (in large cities their number reaches several dozen). Unfortunately, domestic radio receivers of the past years are not designed to receive transmissions in this range. A possible way out is to manufacture a VHF set-top box (in fact, a high-frequency FM path) or (if the receiver has a VHF-1 range) a converter, which not everyone can do. But there is another way, which can be used even by a person who is little familiar with radio reception equipment.

On sale there are many miniature imported radios and so-called MP3 players, which provide for the reception of radio stations in the VHF-2 range. If the output of such a device, designed for connecting headphones, is connected to the input of an AF amplifier of any domestic receiver, then loud-speaking reception in the VHF-2 range will become possible. In other words, all that needs to be done is to make a connecting cable with a plug for connecting to a miniature device on one side and a connector for connecting to the input of the AF amplifier of the old receiver on the other.

A diagram of such a cable is shown in fig. 1. For reception in the VHF-2 range, a small-sized M-820 receiver (made in China) was used along with a domestic VEF-12 receiver, which has a socket for connecting a tape recorder. The absence of modifications to the receivers allows, as before, to use each of them separately. In addition, according to the proposed scheme, any cell phone that provides for the reception of VHF radio stations can be used as a signal source.

If the old receiver does not have an outlet for connecting an external signal source, it is not difficult to introduce one. Usually, the variable resistor of the volume control (R1 in Fig. 2) is connected as a divider of the output voltage of the detector: one of its outputs is connected to the detector, the second - to the common wire, and the output of the engine - to the input of the AF amplifier.

When introducing an XS1 socket (it can be of any type) to connect a receiver with a VHF band, the output of the variable resistor R1 connected to the detector output is disconnected from the latter and connected to one of the socket sockets (the second one is connected to a common wire) and the closing contact of the additional switch SA1 (also any type) . Its opening contact is connected to a common wire through a resistor R2 of the same resistance as the variable one, and the movable contact is connected to the detector output.

After such refinement, in position "1" of the switch, the input of the AF amplifier will be disconnected from the output of the detector, which will eliminate interference with reception in the VHF band from the receiving path of the old receiver, and in position "2" - connect to it, allowing reception, as well as before remodeling.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Cats only play with their owners if they want to. 25.12.2023

Domestic cats demonstrate their play activity, preferring to engage in games with their owners only at will. Having learned to analyze the behavior of more than a thousand cats, scientists from the University of Sussex have identified interesting features of cat play.

The results of the study confirm that cats do not mind interacting with their owners in a playful way, but prefer to initiate this process themselves. Understanding these subtleties of pet behavior can help owners strengthen their bond with their cats and create a more harmonious relationship.

Many animal species are known for their tendency to play with toys, but little is known about how domestic cats play. There is a stereotype that cats do not show interest in playing with their owners, preferring to have fun on their own. However, a survey of 924 owners, whose experiences covered 1154 cats, confirmed that 94 percent of cats willingly play with throwing objects.

The survey also found that 61 percent of cats begin to show interest in these games when they are kittens. Pedigree and mixed cats alike are attracted to play by bringing in various items such as toys, hair ties, crumpled paper and bottle caps.

Scientists emphasize that the idea that cats could be taught these games by dogs has not been confirmed. It turned out that only 23 percent of the cats in the survey live in homes with dogs. Interestingly, cats initiate and complete play, being more active on the day they decide to bring toys to their owners. Thus, scientists conclude that cats are ready to play with their owners, but only if they themselves want to do so.

It is emphasized that attention to such signals can strengthen the relationship between cats and their owners.
