7.10.46. In installations for the electrolysis of table salt by mercury, membrane and diaphragm methods, as well as in the electrolysis of hydrochloric acid, the following must be provided:

  • the possibility of emergency manual shutdown of the electrolytic power supply in accordance with 7.10.36, as well as from the control panel room and by the driver of chlorine compressors when they are stopped;
  • automatic shutdown of the electric motors of chlorine and hydrogen compressors for all electrolysis methods, except for the electric motors of chlorine compressors for the mercury method of electrolysis, in the event of a sudden shutdown of the rectified current supplying the electrolyzers (with a delay of 2-3 s after the current is turned off);
  • automatic shutdown (with a delay of up to 3 minutes) of the electric motors of chlorine compressors in the mercury electrolysis method with simultaneous activation of the emergency chlorine absorption system;
  • automatic shutdown by the blocking system with a delay of 3-5 s of the rectifiers supplying the electrolyzers for all electrolysis methods in the event of a sudden stop of all electric motors of chlorine compressors, if self-starting does not occur within the specified period, as well as when a group of electric motors of mercury pumps stops (the number of electric motors in a group is determined in each specific case) with simultaneous activation of the emergency chlorine absorption system from the system and simultaneous signaling to the electrolysis room, compressor room and instrumentation panel;
  • automatic shutdown of the rectifier of the electrolysis plant when the pressure of chlorine gas in the compressor suction manifold rises above the set limit;
  • signaling to the electrolysis room, to the room of the instrumentation panel and to the converter substation in case of a sudden shutdown of one of several operating chlorine compressors;
  • signaling to the electrolysis hall and placement of the instrumentation and control panel when the mercury pump motors stop or the circulation of mercury in electrolyzers with a mercury cathode stops.

7.10.47. In the main production premises, in addition to the general lighting network, a stationary local lighting network with a voltage of up to 50 V, powered from the general lighting network through an isolating transformer, should be provided.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

A new invention will reduce the cost of flexible gadgets 29.08.2013

A team of scientists at the University of Texas has demonstrated one of the most important components that could spark the explosion of flexible electronics: a graphene radio module that is fast enough to send, receive and process communications signals, reports Technology Review.

There are many applicants for the role of material for the manufacture of flexible electronic circuits, but they all have problems. Some materials do not allow you to make fast enough circuits, others do, but the cost of such components is too high for mass production.

According to Deji Akinwande, an electrical and computer engineer at the University of Texas at Austin, head of the project, scientists were able to find a way out using graphene transistors. "I think that now we can talk about flexible smartphones, tablets and other communication devices," he said.

Graphene is a two-dimensional lattice formed by a layer of carbon atoms one atom thick. This material has outstanding mechanical and electrical properties, making it a highly promising material for the microelectronics industry.

Scientists were able to place the parts of the radio module on a flexible polymer substrate and make them switch billions of times per second - at a frequency of 2,4 GHz for Bluetooth technology and 1 GHz for cellular communications. The maximum achieved frequency was 25 GHz.

Previously, researchers from other universities have tried to create flexible components without the use of graphene, but the production of such devices turned out to be costly.

Akinwande's team's main goal was to achieve the lowest possible cost of production. It was possible to do this due to a certain sequence in the manufacturing process. First, scientists formed the necessary structures - electrodes and transistor gates - on a plastic substrate, while simultaneously manufacturing large sheets of graphene on metal.

Graphene was then transferred onto a plastic substrate. At the last stage, the combined structure was covered with a waterproof layer. Akinwande explained that the cost-effectiveness of this method lies in the fact that the graphene itself does not have to be processed.
