7.4.28. Installation of a switchgear up to 1 kV and higher in fire hazardous areas of any class is not recommended. If it is necessary to install a switchgear in fire hazardous areas, the degree of protection of its elements (cabinets, etc.) must comply with Table. 7.4.2.

7.4.29. In fire hazardous zones of any class, with the exception of fire hazardous zones in warehouses, as well as buildings and premises of archives, museums, art galleries, libraries, it is allowed in areas fenced with nets, open installation of a transformer substation, a checkpoint with dry transformers or non-combustible filling, as well as complete capacitor units (CCU) with non-combustible filling of capacitors. At the same time, the degree of protection of the shell of cabinets for KTP, KPP and KKU must be at least IR41. The distance from the KTP, checkpoint and KKU to the fence is taken in accordance with Ch. 4.2.

In fire hazardous zones of any class, with the exception of fire hazardous zones in warehouses, as well as premises of archives, museums, art galleries, libraries, built-in or attached package transformer substations and checkpoints with oil-filled transformers and substations with oil-filled transformers in closed chambers, constructed in accordance with the requirements of Ch. 4.2 and 7.4.30.

7.4.30. Substations with oil-filled transformers can be built-in or attached1) under the following conditions:

1. Doors and ventilation openings of oil-filled transformer chambers should not go into fire hazardous areas.

2. Holes in the walls and floor in the places where cables and electrical wiring pipes pass must be tightly sealed with fireproof materials.

3. The exit from the substation with oil-filled transformers installed in the chambers to the fire hazardous zone can only be made from the switchgear room up to 1 kV. In this case, the door must be self-closing and have a fire resistance rating of at least 0,6 hours.

4. Exit from the premises of KTP and KPP to the fire hazardous area, as well as transportation of transformers of KTP and KPP through the fire hazardous zone are allowed. In this case, the door is provided, as indicated in paragraph 3, and the gate - with a fire resistance limit of at least 0,6 hours.

1. Switchgear, TP, PP are considered built-in if they have two or three walls (partitions) in common with adjacent rooms with fire hazardous zones, and attached if they have only one wall (partition) in common with these rooms.

7.4.31. Oil-filled electrical equipment (transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, etc.) can be installed at a distance of at least 0,8 m from the outer wall of a building with fire hazard zones, provided that the horizontal and vertical distance from the openings in the wall of the building to the installed electrical equipment will be at least 4 m.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Powerful batteries from Solid Power 26.09.2013

Scientists at the University of California, Boulder, have donated next-generation battery technology to a commercial company, Solid Power. The company will commercialize and mass-produce new solid-state batteries that are not only lighter, safer and cheaper than Li-ion, but also have 2-3 times the capacity. Within 18-24 months, comprehensive tests of new batteries will be carried out, after which their mass sale will begin.

Thus, already in 2 years the mass replacement of obsolete, dangerous and expensive lithium-ion batteries may begin on the market. They will be replaced by "dry" solid-state batteries that are not afraid of shock and can store several times more charge.

The new battery does not use an electrolyte, instead the lithium metal anode is separated from the cathode by a ceramic electrolyte. This drastically reduces the weight of the battery, in addition, it becomes much safer and has a large capacity, in particular, it allows at least a 2-fold increase in the range of electric vehicles, bringing it to 300-600 km.

It has been very difficult to create a solid electrolyte that conducts ions as easily as a liquid one. The problem was the low efficiency of such batteries, but scientists managed to solve it. They mixed small particles of cathode material with a solid electrolyte, into which they added a special additive that increases electrical conductivity. This configuration allows ions and electrons to move more easily in the cathode.
