1.8.24. 1. Insulation resistance measurement:

a) leashes and rods made of organic materials. Produced with a megohmmeter for a voltage of 2,5 kV. The insulation resistance must not be lower than the values given in 1.8.19, clause 1a;

b) multi-element insulators. Produced in accordance with 1.8.35;

c) secondary circuits and windings of control electromagnets. Manufactured in accordance with 1.8.37.

2. Power frequency overvoltage test:

a) insulation of disconnectors, separators and short circuiters. Produced in accordance with table. 1.8.16;

b) insulation of secondary circuits and windings of control electromagnets. Produced in accordance with 1.8.37.

3. DC resistance measurement:

a) the measurement must be carried out between the points “contact terminal - contact terminal”. The results of resistance measurements must comply with factory standards, and if they are absent, with the data in Table. 1.8.21;

b) windings of control electromagnets. The winding resistance values must correspond to the manufacturer's data.

4. Measurement of pulling forces of moving contacts from fixed ones.

Produced for 35 kV disconnectors and separators. Measuring the value of pulling forces when the contact surfaces are degreased must correspond to the manufacturer’s data.

5. Checking the operation of the disconnector, separator and short circuit.

Manually operated devices shall be verified by performing 5 closing operations and 5 opening operations.

Remote controlled devices must also be tested by performing 5 switching operations and the same number of switching operations at the rated voltage at the terminals of the electromagnets and control motors.

6. Determination of time characteristics.

Produced at short circuiters when switching on and at separators when switching off. The measured values must correspond to the manufacturer's data.

7. Checking the operation of the mechanical interlock.

The interlock should not allow the main knives to be operated while the grounding knives are turned on, and vice versa.

Table 1.8.21. The highest permissible direct current resistance of the contact system of disconnectors and separators

Type of disconnector (separator) Rated voltage, kV Rated current, A Resistance, µOhm
RONZ 500 2000 200
RLN 35-200 600 220

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

A model for predicting the decay of vitamins in space 20.09.2019

A team of nutrition scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has developed a groundbreaking, user-friendly mathematical model for NASA that should ensure that astronauts' food stays nutrient-rich during long space missions.

The new study gives NASA a time-saving opportunity to predict the degradation of spaceflight vitamins over time and to more accurately and efficiently plan resupply. The study was funded by a $982 NASA grant.

"There was no information in the literature to directly answer the questions and concerns that NASA had. We used real-time data in our study to train a mathematical model and determine how predictive and robust the model would be," said study author Khan Xiao, professor and scientist at Clydesdale Scholar of Food Science.

Xiao and colleagues have shown for the first time how thiamine (vitamin B1) degrades within two years on three team menu options: brown rice, pea soup and beef brisket. Xiao says it was "pretty good" to find that brown rice and pea soup stored at 20°C showed resistance to thiamine degradation. However, the thiamine in beef brisket was far less stable, retaining only 3 percent of the vitamin after two years.

The researchers note that NASA emphasizes the importance of obtaining nutrients naturally from food. "It's preferable for better health," Xiao says. "More and more studies show that your body takes vitamin pills differently from real foods like pea soup."
