Measurements are taken during scheduled repairs of equipment to which protective devices are connected, but at least once every 6 years
For arresters and arresters with a rated voltage of 3 kV and above, measurements are made with a megohmmeter for a voltage of 2500 V, for arresters and arresters with a rated voltage of less than 3 kV - with a megohmmeter for a voltage of 1000 V
17.2. Measuring the insulation resistance of insulating bases of arresters with response recorders М Insulation resistance must be at least 1 MΩ Measured with a megaohmmeter for a voltage of 1000 - 2500 V
17.3. Measurement of conduction current of valve arresters with rectified voltage М The conduction current values of valve arresters must correspond to those specified by the manufacturer or given in the table. 23 Extraordinary measurement of conduction current is carried out when the resistance of the above in paragraph 17.1 changes
17.4. Conduction current measurement of surge arresters М The conduction current values of the arrester must correspond to those specified by the manufacturer or given in the table. 24 (Appendix 3.1) During operation, for 110 and 220 kV limiters, it is recommended to carry out measurements without disconnecting from the network annually before the thunderstorm season according to the manufacturer’s methods

17.6. Measuring the breakdown voltage of valve arresters at power frequency К The measured breakdown voltages may differ from the manufacturer's data by +5 - -10% or must correspond to those given in the table. 25(Appendix 3.1) Measurement is carried out only after repair with opening of the arrester according to the manufacturer’s method by specially trained personnel in the presence of an installation that ensures that the voltage application time is limited
17.7. Checking the tightness of the arrester К The change in pressure with the valve closed for 1 - 2 hours should not exceed 0,07 kPa (0,5 mm Hg) Performed only after repair with opening of the arrester at a vacuum of 40 - 50 kPa (300 - 400 mm Hg)
17.8. Thermal imaging control М Produced in accordance with established standards and manufacturer's instructions

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Methanol production at room temperature 28.09.2023

Scientists from Cardiff University and an international research team have presented an innovative method for producing methanol, a key component for the production of fuels, plastics and medicines, which does not require external energy sources such as light or electricity and operates at normal room temperature. This method is based on the use of a highly active catalyst that converts natural gas methane and oxygen into methanol.

Innovation involves eliminating costly and energy-intensive processes and creating new catalytic methods to make methanol production more environmentally friendly. A special role in this process is played by phosphomolybdate with a reduced H2 content, which stimulates the aerobic oxidation of methane to methanol at room temperature.

Professor Graham Hutchings, a chemistry expert at Cardiff University and one of the study's co-authors, said: "The discovery of efficient catalysts for the synthesis of methanol from methane is of key importance for the modern chemical industry."

This research was made possible through international collaborations including the Max Planck Center for the Foundations of Heterogeneous Catalysis, the Net Zero Innovation Institute at Cardiff University and overseas research institutes. The Cardiff University team, working in cutting-edge laboratories, shared their expertise in catalyst design and performance analysis techniques, which was fundamental to understanding catalyst performance and increasing its lifespan.

Dr Andrea Folli, electrocatalysis scientist at the Net Zero Innovation Institute, added: "This discovery could be an important step towards sustainable fuel economy for methanol-based fuels, which is especially important given the huge supply of methane as a feedstock."
