Modern laboratory power supplies usually have output voltages that do not exceed a few tens of volts. Meanwhile, in amateur radio experiments, there may be a need for a low-power high-voltage voltage source. It is easy to assemble it from improvised means using widely used elements and a conventional step-down ("incandescent") network transformer. (Volker Kindt. Hochspannungsgenerator fur Zahlrohre. - Funkschau. 1981, No. 19, S. 95-96).

A schematic diagram of a power source that provides a stabilized output voltage in the range of 100 ... 700 V at a load current of several tens of microamperes is shown in the figure. It was used to power an experimental Geiger counter design.

High voltage power supply

An oscillator operating at a frequency of about 1 kHz is assembled on the integral timer DA2,5. Rectangular pulses from the low-resistance output of the timer are fed to the step-up transformer T1. which was used as a network transformer, designed for an output voltage of 6.3 V and a current of 280 mA (winding I) at a mains voltage of 220 V (winding II). On the mains winding of the transformer, the effective value of the alternating voltage will be approximately 100 V. A rectifier with diodes VD2 - VD9 is connected to this winding. made according to the voltage multiplication scheme.

The transistor VT1 has an output voltage stabilizer. It enters the base circuit of the transistor through a divider consisting of resistors R4 - R8 and a trimming resistor R3. As soon as the voltage at the output of the converter exceeds a certain value (it is determined by the position of the trimmer resistor R3). then the transistor VT1 will open and shunt the capacitor SL. This will lead to a breakdown of the generator oscillations (until the required voltage value is restored at the source output).

The VS547V transistor can be replaced with a KT342B, the 555 chip with a KR1006VI1, and the 1N4007 diodes with a KD243Zh.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New HP Chromebook 14 05.11.2015

US computer maker HP, which split into two companies on Monday, unveiled a new slimline Chromebook with long battery life. An updated HP Chromebook 14 model has appeared in the vendor's assortment.

It is equipped with a dual-core Intel Celeron N2840 processor with a clock speed of 2,16 GHz, integrated graphics accelerator Intel HD Graphics and passive cooling. The amount of RAM DDR3L SDRAM is 2 GB (two modules of 1 GB each), the capacity of the built-in eMMC flash drive is 32 GB.

Also, digital content can be stored on removable microSD memory cards and in Google Drive cloud storage, in which each purchaser of this mobile PC is entitled to 100 GB of free disk space.

The novelty comes with a 14-inch BrightView LED-backlit screen and a resolution of 1366? 768 pixels (HD). A version with a Full HD IPS display will also be available.

The manufacturer draws attention to the fact that a Chromebook with an HD screen is able to work without recharging for 9 hours and 15 minutes. For this, a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 37 Wh is used.

There are HDMI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 connectors. The latter allows you to charge mobile devices even in the "sleep" mode of the laptop. The thickness of the computer case - 17,8 mm, weight - 1,79 kg.

The new HP Chromebook will cost $250 and $280 for HD and Full HD versions, respectively. Users will be able to purchase the new Chromebook in silver and blue colors.
