When repairing components of automotive electrical equipment (drive motors, relays, electric locks, alarms, etc.), as well as charging batteries in stationary conditions, a DC source is required that delivers a current of at least 10 A and ensures that the output voltage is adjusted within 3... 15 V.

From the point of view of simplicity and reliability, it is most expedient to use a combination of a diode rectifier and a thyristor voltage regulator.

The figure shows a simple source circuit with a thyristor regulator that provides a load current of up to 10 A and output voltage regulation in the range of 3-5 V.

Regulated power supply for automotive electrical repair and battery charging, 3-5 volts 10 amps

The mains voltage is reduced to a certain maximum constant value by the transformer T1. Next, follows a simple rectifier diodes VD1 and VD2.

At the point of connection of these diodes in relation to the tap of the secondary winding of the transformer, there will be a pulsating voltage.

In principle, it can be immediately applied to the load, but it is also necessary to provide adjustment. The traditional use of a transistor as a control element will require a very massive radiator for it and reduce the reliability of the device, so the control element is made on the VS1 thyristor.

During the half-cycle, an increasing voltage is applied to the anode of the thyristor. Until the opening voltage is supplied to the control electrode of the thyristor, it is closed. The moment on the half-wave curve of a sinusoidal voltage at which the thyristor opens is determined by the circuit C1, R1, C2, R2, R3.

By adjusting the position on the function of the variable voltage of the thyristor opening moment (the thyristor opening phase shift angle), using resistor R1, you can adjust the level of the amplitude of the pulsating voltage at the thyristor cathode.

An automobile ammeter with a scale of 10 A is connected in series with the load, and a voltmeter is connected in parallel.

The transformer is wound on a core of size Sh-35x52. The primary winding contains 600 turns of PEV-0,54 wire, the secondary 2x70 turns of PEV-1,0 wire.

The thyristor requires a heat sink, so it can be installed directly on the metal case of the device. The output terminals do not have contact with the body.

At the output of the device, you can turn on a capacitor bank (of the order of 10 microfarads), which will smooth out the inevitable voltage ripples.

The device can be used not only for equipment repair, but also for charging batteries.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Anti-router Cyborg Unplug 14.09.2014

In today's digital era of wireless technologies, devices such as quadrocopters, as well as Google Glass glasses, along with other "smart" gadgets equipped with miniature cameras for discreet shooting, for some category of citizens are associated exclusively with espionage and illegal video recording.

The anti-router Cyborg Unplug will help you get rid of the obsessive feeling of persecution and the paranoia that develops against this background, which has every chance of becoming your personal guarantor of peace of mind. The task of the device is to automatically detect an unwanted device that has appeared in the coverage area of your Wi-Fi network, functionally focused on video shooting.

First, when scanning Wi-Fi bands with modules installed in wireless security cameras, smart glasses or drones, Cyborg Unplug identifies the type of device by its Mac address. If the electronics that have fallen into the range are banned at the direction of the owner of the router, then, as you might guess, the ability to access your wireless network is instantly blocked by the Mac address. Moreover, the specified procedure is carried out immediately before the trial connection attempt.

The presented anti-router is designed to monitor networks mainly in public places with a huge number of users in order to identify all potentially dangerous tracking devices with a working Wi-Fi module. When foreign equipment appears in the Cyborg Unplug coverage area, the device will notify its owner with a sound signal or a flashing LED. Everything else will happen without human intervention.

The author of the idea in the face of Julian Oliver provided two modes of Cyborg Unplug - "Territory Mode" and "All Out Mode". In the first option, the router with the prefix "anti" will filter out all devices located in the Wi-Fi network zone, allowing some of them to connect, and will begin to independently "catch" gadgets invading privacy. When "All Out Mode" is selected, the Cyborg Unplug blocking signal will include all equipment within range without exception.

The developers note that Cyborg Unplug does not interfere and does not, of course, affect the overall quality of the coverage. A flexible system of settings will even allow you to sort the found devices into categories and selectively block all Google Glass "smart" glasses without touching the same smartphones or laptops.

The cost of Cyborg Unplug, which will be available this year in two versions, will be $50 and $100, respectively. It is assumed that the main customers of Cyborg Unplug will not be individuals who can simply set a password for their home network, but the leadership of schools, restaurants and various kinds of enterprises. It is they who are interested in filtering, while leaving access to Wi-Fi open to everyone who wants to use the Internet for business or educational needs.
