When repairing equipment with a volumetric arrangement of radio components located in hard-to-reach places (for example, oscilloscope mode switches), there is often a need for a low-power local light source. Lighting from general sources gives a weak light, and powerful local sources of light, such as incandescent table lamps, which are located in the workplace, give a strong reflection and a lot of shadows, which introduces additional inconvenience.

To speed up troubleshooting, I suggest using the light probe shown in the figure.

light probe

The probe consists of a miniature incandescent light bulb type CMH9-60 (pos.1), a transparent rod from a gel pen with an outer diameter of 4,75 mm (pos.4), connecting wires (pos.3) of the brand NVN-4 with an outer diameter for insulation 1,25 mm and plugs (pos.6) for connecting the probe to the B5-27 power supply. One of the flexible leads of the light bulb is shortened, respectively, one of the connecting wires is shortened. The wires are soldered to the bulb. The shortened terminal (pos. 2) is insulated with a thin adhesive tape. The connecting conductors, through which the supply voltage is applied, are fixed from axial displacement in the inner space of the rod due to radial friction, since they are threaded through two grooves (pos. 5) cut in the rod body using a round needle file.

The rod provides sufficient rigidity for mechanical protection of the light bulb and the structure as a whole. The inner diameter of the rod is 3,2 mm. The outer diameter of the bulb SMN9-60 is 3 mm.

When repairing lamp structures, the probe can be connected directly to the lamp filament circuit. If the radio amateur has a soldering iron with a step-down transformer (PT), for example, from the electric soldering kit 2.940 005 TU, produced by the Mayak Vinnitsa plant, then by installing additional petals in the lower connector in sockets 4 and 5 and applying a voltage of 4 V to them ( available in the PT), you can connect the probe and use the soldering iron connected to the top connector at the same time.

The PT scheme is published in [1].

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Keyboard for extreme conditions on the FDC2214 capacitance meter 28.12.2016

The FDC2214 capacitance meter IC for non-contact measurement allows you to create control panels for the harshest equipment operating conditions. As an example, Texas Instrumernts offers an Explosion Proof meter support design where the touch buttons are hidden behind 10mm thick glass with up to 2mm extra air space. The operator can operate the device even with gloves, while the design is resistant to various kinds of pollution in the form of dust, oil, etc.

The FDC2214 is a 4-channel capacitance-to-code converter with high resolution up to 28 bits and enhanced immunity to electromagnetic interference. High accuracy of capacitance measurement is provided in a wide range of absolute values - up to 250 nF. Intrinsic noise is only 0,3 fF when measured 100 times per second. The maximum measurement rate can reach 13 kHz. For measurements on only 2 channels, you can use the FDC2112 chip.

FDC2214 operates via the I2C interface, the operating voltage is within 2,7 ... 3,6 V. The current consumption at the time of measurement does not exceed 2,1 mA, in sleep mode 35 μA, in the off state 200 nA. Operating temperature range -40°C to +125°C.

The microcircuit can be used as a proximity detector - it is enough to increase the area of the measuring electrode. With an electrode size approximately equal to a sheet of A4 paper, the detection range of a person can reach 50 cm.
