The population has accumulated a large number of power tools operating on high-frequency alternating current. The first wave of such equipment poured into the private user during the privatization of the 90s, the second - as a result of mass trips of people to work in near and far abroad. Those who somehow purchased an industrial power tool simply do not know what to do with it, because frequency converters are required to operate high-frequency motors.

A three-phase frequency converter 50/200 Hz and voltage 380 (220) / 36 V with a power of 0,4 kW can be made from a conventional electric motor and a car alternator. It is known that the operating speed of AC electrical machines (motors and generators) is equal to the AC frequency divided by the number of pole pairs of the stator winding. There is also slip (asynchrony), which is different for different electric machines, conditions and modes of operation.

Slip must be taken into account when designing electric machine frequency converters based on asynchronous motors. To round off the calculations, we will omit this circumstance for the time being. This means that in order to achieve a frequency of 200 Hz, it is necessary to spin a conventional automotive alternator up to 2000 rpm. This is easy to do with an electric motor and a belt drive. The ratio of the diameters of the driving and driven pulleys should be inversely proportional to the operating speed of the electric motor and generator.

For example, for an engine with an operating speed of 1500 rpm, a pulley with a diameter of 100 mm is required, for a generator, respectively, 75 mm (Fig. 1).

To force the generator to give 36 V instead of 12 V, it is necessary to introduce a "deceptive" resistor R into a typical circuit (Fig. 2), with the help of which the required voltage is set at the output of the device.

Starting motors operating on increased frequency alternating current

Details. Generator G-250-E1 (-I1; -H1); relay-regulator PP350; electric motor 1500 rpm (0,7 kW for three-phase voltage, 1,5 kW for single-phase); chemical battery or other source of constant voltage 1,5 ... 13 V (to start the generator); resistor - low-resistance rheostat; throttle; light bulb (selected when adjusting).

For a more powerful 50/400 Hz converter, a 500 rpm electric motor driven by a 3000 rpm motor can be used as a generator. To spin the generator up to a frequency of 4000 rpm, a 4 to 3 gear will be required. This is without slip! This solution has not been tested and is offered as a possible solution.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Samsung Galaxy S III display better than Apple iPhone 5 display 15.10.2012

The source claims that the display of the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone is superior in some respects to the display of the Apple iPhone 5 smartphone. In particular, the use of in-cell touch technology made it possible to reduce the thickness of the iPhone 5 display, but in this parameter it still lags behind the Galaxy S III display.

The iPhone 5's display thickness is 1,5mm, which is 0,6mm thinner than the iPhone 4S's 2,1mm display. The thickness of the display of the flagship smartphone Samsung is 1,1 mm. The color gamut in the case of the iPhone 4S is 50% of the NTSC space. In the iPhone 5 model, the coverage was brought up to 72% of the NTSC space. Galaxy S III display covers 100% of NTSC space.

The source is quick to point out that the smaller screen thickness does not always correspond to the smaller thickness of the entire device as a whole. For example, in the case of Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple iPhone 5, the situation is reversed. The thickness of the Apple iPhone 5 is 7,6 mm, Samsung Galaxy III - 8,6 mm. If we talk about color gamut, then it is not the only technical parameter that determines the perception of the image. On the one hand, coverage of 72% of the NTSC space satisfies the needs of most users. On the other hand, due to better calibration, more realistic colors can be obtained, and the use of in-cell touch technology helped to increase the brightness of the screen.

In addition, the results of our own measurements allowed us to conclude that "compared to the iPhone 4S, the new version of the smartphone has a wider color gamut and is almost equal to sRGB, as well as a higher efficiency of the anti-glare filter."

The Galaxy III uses an OLED screen, while the iPhone 5 uses an LCD screen.
