You can regulate the speed of a DC electric motor by changing the voltage on it using a simple regulator assembled on a single transistor. This circumstance is easily implemented for low-power electric motors, since the current consumption is small. If it becomes necessary to regulate the voltage for a sufficiently powerful motor, then the power dissipation on the transistor can become significant, so large heatsinks and sufficiently powerful transistors will have to be used.

There is another way to regulate the voltage on the motor by the method of phase-pulse modulation. The motor is supplied with full voltage with a variable duty cycle.

The diagrams shown in Fig. 1 correspond to 10% of the voltage on the motor, and in Fig. 2 - 90%. Thus, the actual voltage on the motor changes, which affects the speed of rotation of the rotor.

Powerful motor speed controller

The simplest way to change the duty cycle of the pulse at a constant frequency is to use a voltage-phase converter made on the integrated timer KR1006VI1 (Fig. 3).

Powerful motor speed controller

The frequency of the generator can be changed over a wide range of capacitance C1. To improve the opening of the transistor VT1, you can reduce the resistance of the resistor R3 to 56 ... 120 Ohms, you only need to make sure that the load current at pin 3 (D1) does not exceed 100 mA. The supply voltage of the device can be changed over a wide range from 4,5 to 16,5 V.

The PCB drawing is shown in Figure 4.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that both methods of adjusting the engine speed have an unpleasant side: as the engine speed decreases, the power also decreases. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to introduce feedback, which will not only stabilize the rotor speed, but also compensate for the loss of power.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Playing the loudest sound 02.06.2019

A team of researchers at Stanford University's SLAC Linear Accelerator Laboratory has created what can be considered sound at the loudest possible level. For this, one of the most powerful X-ray lasers LCLS (Linac Coherent Light Source) was used, the beam of which was focused on the thinnest stream of water. The "explosive" evaporation of water created a sound wave with an incredibly high acoustic pressure, the strength of which slightly exceeded the mark of 270 decibels.

Sound power is measured in decibels, and the sound power scale is logarithmic. The weakest sound that the human ear can distinguish is the sound of a flying mosquito from a distance of 3 meters. The sound level during a normal leisurely conversation is 55 decibels, the sound of a jet plane taking off from a distance of 100 meters is 130 decibels, and the sound "spewing" from the speakers during the performance of a rock band is 150 decibels.

However, the sound power in air cannot fundamentally exceed 194 decibels, and in water - about 270 decibels. With a further increase in the power of the wave emitter, the harmonic form of sound waves is violated, harmonics appear, but the sound strength remains at the same maximum level.

This effect occurred when scientists fired an X-ray laser beam at water jets that ranged in diameter from 14 to 30 micrometers. The water hit by the laser instantly evaporated and created a shock wave that spread out into alternating areas of high and low pressure - a very loud underwater sound, in other words.

As the researchers turned the laser power up even higher, the volume of the underwater sound began to rise. But, upon reaching the maximum sound level, the sound wave "broke" and tiny bubbles were formed, which instantly collapsed, forming a phenomenon called cavitation. This phenomenon occurs in the area of rapidly rotating propellers of ships and submarines, in addition, it is used to reduce the force of water resistance when moving under water at high speed.

Note that the achievement of the maximum threshold of the sound level under water has, in addition to academic value, practical value too. Understanding the processes that occur in water and air during the propagation of powerful sound waves will allow scientists to find ways to protect miniature samples that are analyzed using electron microscopes and X-ray lasers, which will be of great help in the development of new nanomaterials, medicines, etc.
