Nowadays, digital methods are being introduced into the most unexpected areas of application [1].

With digital lighting, as well as with the control of jet engines, it is undesirable to unbalance the luminous flux when switching the brightness of light sources. This creates the effect of a shadowless lamp (as in surgery), and the more lamps are turned on, the more the shadows are blurred. There are other benefits of digital lighting:

1. The consumed electrical power (as well as the luminous flux) varies discretely. The user can choose the optimal level for himself, which will really save energy.

2. A "multi-tube" illuminator is very tenacious, it is unlikely that all the bulbs will burn out, in any case, the procedure for replacing burned-out bulbs can always be postponed until daylight hours.

3. The problem of storing spare bulbs is solved, since they can be interchanged in the lamp.

4. You can solve the problem of "soft" inclusion of light bulbs in the network, first turning on one light bulb, with its heat it warms up the rest, preparing them for switching on.

5. With all the switching of the brightness of the digital lighting head, the spectral composition of the light does not change (this is exactly what happens with thyristor brightness control).

The figure shows the principle of digital lighting with different bit depths of digital control devices (from 1 to 8 bits). The main thing is that when the brightness of the digital illuminator is increased, the bulbs light up starting from the center. This makes sense for multi-bit control. With a small number of discharges, it is better to be guided by the principles set forth in [2, 3].

With the advent of ultra-bright LEDs, a real revolution will occur in lighting technology. LEDs are perfectly combined with digital electronics. Their use is still limited by a high price, but this will pass with time.

And this revolution will end with the fact that the incandescent light bulb will pass into the category of museum values. On the shelves of stores will show off LED lamps controlled by microprocessors. They will be of various shapes and sizes, with any radiation power (at least up to 1000 W), with any spectral composition of the radiation, and most importantly - very economical.

Even light sources such as fluorescent lamps can be converted to digital control methods.

In my opinion, such light sources will be expensive, complex and unreliable.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Ambulance notification 20.01.2017

The sirens of ambulances, as well as rescue vehicles, are designed to be loud enough so that even drivers far away can hear them and give way in time. However, some drivers have a habit of playing the music at full volume, and they enjoy the peals of it, blissfully unaware that they interfere with the movement of the ambulance.

In a situation where a person's life depends on the timely arrival of doctors and every second is precious, such behavior can lead to disaster.

Students at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm have developed the technology that will be fitted to ambulances in Sweden. With its help, you can stop the playback of music in cars moving nearby and notify by voice (via an FM tuner with Radio Data System (RDS)) about the approach of an ambulance, so that drivers can “snuggle up” to the side of the road in time, giving way to it. In addition, a text warning about the approach of an ambulance is displayed on the dashboard display in the car.

"Often, drivers have only a few seconds to react and give way to an emergency vehicle," says Mikael Erneberg, one of the creators of the system, dubbed the EVAM System. "The optimal warning time is 10 to 15 seconds."

The student project will be tested on special vehicles in Sweden in the first quarter of 2017.
