The simplest version of this box is a small flat box. It is approximately 10 cm long and 7,5 cm wide. It should not be higher than 3 cm. An ordinary card should easily fit inside such a box.

The lid and bottom of the box, connected by hinges, must be exactly the same. Each half of the box should freely close it.

Focus Card Replacement Box

If you take a card with a double face, i.e. it has on one side, say, the king of hearts, and on the other side the king of spades (but the spectators do not know this), and put it in an open box, then you just need to close and turn it over when you put it on the table, and this card will turn into another. Nothing in the box should indicate that it is upside down.

For such a box, you can make a free-lying plank of the same wood as the inside of the box. Its thickness should not be more than the card, and the dimensions are such that it fits snugly, but not lapped, to each half of the box.

If such a plank is placed in a box, it will appear as the upper part of the bottom of the box. When the box is closed so that the part in which the plank is placed is on top, then the plank falls to the bottom, forming a false bottom of the bottom. If a card, such as the king of hearts, is placed in a box closed with a plank in advance, then the box appears empty. Then, in front of the audience, we can put another card there, such as the jack of spades, in the other half of the box, and close the box.

You just need to turn the box over before opening it, and the jack of spades will turn into the king of hearts.

You can use these boxes in pairs. For example, you put both boxes on a table and, taking a deck of cards from it, ask two spectators to choose a card. At first glance, they choose completely freely, but in fact you force them, using a deft movement or a forced deck, the ace of hearts and the jack of spades.

Again, take out both boxes and ask each spectator to put their card into one of them, trying to make sure that the one who chose the ace of hearts puts it in the box with the jack of spades, and vice versa.

Then you close both boxes with the parts that contain the false bottom. You tell the spectators that at your command the cards will change places, which you confirm by opening the boxes. If you decide to return the cards to their places, then you just need to find a reason to turn them over, for example, you can rearrange the boxes to another place on the table and turn them over when you put them back on the table.

With the help of these boxes, you can come up with many interesting tricks. For example, putting a card under a false bottom and forcing the same card, tear it into many pieces, and then, putting these pieces into a box or shooting them at it from a pistol, instantly pull out a completely whole card.

In the same way, you can force the card to appear in a completely empty box, or the card can disappear from the box.

Such a box will also be useful for those who cannot force the map well. In this case, you ask someone to select a card without looking at it, you place the card face down in the storage box. Then open the box from the other end and take the card that you actually put under the false bottom. And the viewer gets the full impression that he sees the card he has chosen.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Hydrogen biofuel 01.05.2007

American scientists have figured out how to increase the yield of fuel generated during the processing of straw and other agricultural waste. The production of fuel from agricultural waste in the US and Western Europe is considered one of the ways to save both from global warming and from oil dependence.

One of the processing methods is high-temperature pyrolysis: straw or other garbage is heated without oxygen access and converted into a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Then hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide are obtained from this mixture, into which up to 60% of the carbon atoms present in the straw pass.

"This is because biomass is viewed as a source of energy. And we decided to look at it as a source of hydrocarbons and utilize all the carbon fixed by the plant during photosynthesis," says Professor Rakesh Agrawal from Purdue University. To solve this problem, scientists added hydrogen to the reactor: combining with carbon, it began to produce hydrocarbons.

“Now there is a lot of talk about hydrogen energy. However, the infrastructure for hydrocarbon vehicles is well developed, and for hydrogen or electric cars it is practically absent. Therefore, using hydrogen to produce conventional fuel is quite reasonable. process, you need to sow only 10% of the seed wedge with appropriate plants, and with conventional technology, 25 to 55% of the US area should go to this," says Rakesh Agrawal.
