The power supply circuit of the fluorescent lamp (see figure) is powered by a 12 V battery (emergency power supply).

The current consumption when using a 40-watt lamp from a battery is 280 ... 350 mA. The setting consists in adjusting the frequency of the generator with a variable resistor R2 until the maximum brightness of the lamp glow is obtained (at a frequency above 20 kHz, the "squeak" of the transformer disappears). A fluorescent lamp may also have burnt filaments.

Details. Chip DD1 type K155LA3 (you can also use K155LA4 or K155LN1). Transistor VT1 can be types KT315, KT306, KT3102, KT312, transistor VT2 - types KT805, KT815, KT817, KT819. Zener diode VD1 type KS147 (less desirable KS156). Transformer - sound output from old tube TVs such as TV3-Sh, TV1-9 (turned on "vice versa"). Network transformers also work well, but it is desirable that there are fewer turns in the 6,3 V filament winding.

Robotic gardening system AlphaGarden 10.06.2023

American engineers compared the success of their AlphaGarden robotic system in the garden with how professional gardeners took care of the plants. It turned out that AlphaGarden is able to independently monitor the condition of plants, watering or cutting them if necessary, just as people would do.

AlphaGarden is an automated plant growing system developed with engineers from the University of California, Berkeley. It includes a platform that can sow a garden, cut and water vegetables, as well as an autonomous system that allows you to perform all the necessary manipulations in a timely and correct manner using a neural network.

A neural network trained to take care of plants uses data from the camera and moisture sensors installed on the platform to ensure that each plant receives the necessary care. Thus, AlphaGarden can be used in multicultural vegetable gardens, where a variety of plants grow at the same time.

In the new study, the scientists set out to compare the performance of AlphaGarden in the vegetable garden with that of professional gardeners. Both gardens were planted with 32 plants anyway, including kale, cucumber, mustard and red lettuce. For 60 days, AlphaGarden took care of its plot, and gardeners took care of theirs, with little or no interference with the operation of the platform. Human assistance was needed by AlphaGarden at some stages of plant pruning, according to IEEE Spectrum.

The results of the experiment showed that AlphaGarden can not only take care of the garden as well as people, but also more economically - as a result, it turned out that the platform used 44 percent less water for its garden than gardeners.

The developers of the system will continue to improve AlphaGarden, in particular, its algorithms for monitoring the state of plants. The researchers also plan to include lighting systems in AlphaGarden that would allow it to grow plants indoors with high quality.
