For the correct selection of the wire section, it is necessary to take into account the value of the maximum current consumed by the load. The current value is easy to determine, knowing the nameplate power of consumers according to the formula I \u220d P / 2000 (for example, for an electric heater with a power of 9 W, the current will be 60 A, for a 0,3 W light bulb - XNUMX A).

Knowing the total current of all consumers and taking into account the ratio of the current load permissible for an open wiring wire to the wire cross section (for copper wire 10 A per 1 mm, for aluminum 8 A per 1 mm), you can select a wire. When making hidden wiring (in a pipe or in a wall), the values given must be multiplied by a correction factor of 0,8. It should be noted that open wiring is usually performed with a wire with a cross section of at least 4 mm2, based on sufficient mechanical strength.

When choosing the type of wire, you must also take into account the permissible insulation breakdown voltage (it is impossible to use wires for a telephone line for electrical wiring for a mains voltage of 220 V).

The above ratios are easy to remember and provide sufficient accuracy for domestic use of wires. If you want to know with greater accuracy the long-term current load for copper wires and cables, then you can use Table 1.

Table 1
How to choose the right wires for electrical wiring and make a fuse

When wiring circuits at the input, it is imperative to install a general switch and fuses (fusible links or electromechanical machines). Fuses are the most widely used in household networks.

When a fuse blows, you need to quickly replace it, but there is not always a spare for the required current. In this case, a jumper ("bug") is often made from any wire that comes to hand. Over time, this is forgotten, and when overloaded, the wiring may catch fire.

To prevent this from happening, it is convenient to use a simplified formula that will allow you to correctly manufacture a fuse for any current with sufficient accuracy. For a single-core copper wire, the fuse protection current is determined by the simplified formula

Ipr = 80 (d3)1/2,

where d is the wire diameter, mm.

The results of calculations for different types of wires are given in Table 2.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Direct lithography of optical systems based on perovskite 16.02.2022

Direct lithography of perovskite nanocrystals inside glass with the ability to adjust the composition was implemented by a group of researchers from China.

Perovskites are a type of mineral that has special optical properties. Because of this, it is well suited for the creation of fuel cells and electronic devices such as cathodes and LEDs. But as the researchers note, the processing of minerals usually involves the use of special solutions, which leads to low structural stability.

The researchers developed a new approach - using ultrafast laser pulses to perform 3D direct lithography of perovskite NCs with the ability to tune the composition. The impact of the laser also increases the pressure, resulting in the separation of the liquid nanophase.

The scientists carried out their experiments on oxide glasses made of lead, cesium and halide. They then used a laser to engrave 3D patterns into the glass mass.

They managed to carry out etching of pixel dots with different wavelengths of radiation. Thus, the possibility of using the technology for the manufacture of micrometer-sized LEDs was demonstrated. XNUMXD color images of letters, numbers and symbols were then etched. As well as multi-colored arrays to show the possibility of using this technique to create glass-based memory devices.

This process can be used to create materials that work in a variety of optical applications. They also note that the products produced are much more stable than those used in solution etching, even under conditions of changing temperature or other environmental parameters.
