Method one

Upgrading a six-string guitar

We put on the guitar an additional 3 strings (the thinnest). Why we grind 3 brass pulleys. I did this with a drill, but you can use a lathe or a drilling machine. Using polished studs, we attach the pulleys to the tailpiece. Through the resulting 3 toggle blocks, we start the strings as in the figure. Both ends of the double string are tucked into one peg. When tuned, the tension of the twin strings is equalized through the pulleys and the result is a great unison sound with a spill. If there is not enough length, the strings can be connected with a clutch and soldered. The pulleys should rotate easily, but without play. Their approximate diameter is 10 mm (depending on the distance between the strings on the tailpiece) with a thickness of 1,5-2 mm. If the strings are too tight, the pulleys can be turned from a single plane.

Method two

An electromagnetic pickup in an electric guitar is a coil with a large number of turns wound on a magnetic circuit. It has high inductance and resistance. Its load is the resistance of the volume control and the input impedance of the amplifier. Added to this is the significant capacitance of the shielded connecting cord. All of the above form a second order low-pass filter that effectively suppresses the overtones of the strings in the pickup signal. Moreover, the better the pickup (more turns) and the longer the cord, the more muffled the instrument sounds.

There is an exit. It is necessary to significantly increase the load resistance and eliminate the influence of the cord. This is what the FET cascade built into the guitar does. It is also necessary to replace the volume control with the largest possible resistance. Power is supplied to the transistor from the set-top box or amplifier to which the cord is connected. The supply voltage is not critical. It is only necessary, depending on the initial drain current of your instance of the transistor, by selecting the value of R2 to achieve half the voltage at its lower end. The result is amazing! The sound is crystal clear and transparent.

Upgrading a six-string guitar

All string overtones are natural and harmonious. To enrich the guitar signal with harmonics, various limiters and other distorters are usually used. But how much dirt, noise and background such devices often add. So you should not lose what you already have and what no equalizers can then pull out. Switch S2 on the circuit can be installed instead of a useless tone control, and is needed to bypass the transistor when connected to a "foreign" amplifier. The disadvantage of the circuit is the need to connect the guitar with the amplifier turned off or muffled, so that there are no pops, and the need for high-quality contacts in the connectors.
