Method modified by Jonathan Breitzer and George Lisensky using the following source: John A. Broomhead, Charles G. Young "Inorganic Synthesis" 28, 338-340 (1990)

The coordination complex between the transparent tin oxide electrode and the active metal electrode emits light when an external voltage is applied. Coating too thin a layer of [Ru(bipyridine)3](BF4)2-polyvinyl alcohol will result in a short circuit and no light emission; a coating that is too thick will have too high an electrical resistance and will also result in no radiation.

DryingRuCl3 (enough for 35 preparations)

Rub about 3 g of technical RuCl33H2About in a mortar and pestle and dry the resulting powder in an oven at a temperature of 100 ° C for several hours. The color should change from dark black to dark brown.

Preparation of NaH2PO2from H3PO2(enough for 35 preparations)

Hypophosphorous acid is monobasic (two hydrogen atoms are connected directly to a phosphorus atom) with a dissociation constant of 1,1. Be careful when working! Pour 6 ml of water into a beaker, add 10 ml of 50% H3Ro2 and stir with a magnetic stirrer.

Carefully add the NaOH pellets until the pH of the solution is 6-8. Approximately 3,9 g of NaOH will be required. The resulting solution is approximately a 6 molar NaH solution2PO2.

Preparation of the Ru(II) complex

Dissolve 0,083 g (0,40 mmol) RuCl3· 3H2O in 8 ml of water in a 30 ml beaker fitted with a magnetic stirrer. Add 0,188 g (1,204 mmol) 2,2'-dipyridyl and 0,44 ml NaH2PO2. Cover the beaker with a glass slide and heat under reflux for 30 minutes. Maintain volume by adding water as needed.

Add 0,333 g NaBF4dissolved in 1,5 ml of water. Let the solution cool to room temperature and then cool it on ice until crystals form.

Collect the material obtained by suction filtration and wash it with cold ethanol. Air dry.

[Ru(bipyridine)3](BF4)2 can be applied to manufacturing organic light emitting diode.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The brain of birds reacts to magnetic fields 15.06.2023

An international team of scientists has found that there is a special group of neurons in bird brains that respond to changes in the magnetic field. When a bird is in a magnetic field, these neurons fire and relay information about the direction and intensity of the field to other parts of the brain involved in orientation and navigation.

Scientists conducted experiments using titmouse birds with a device that allowed changing the magnetic field under controlled conditions. They found that even a slight change in the magnetic field caused a response in the neurons of the bird's brain.

These discoveries are important for our understanding of how birds use magnetic fields for navigation and orientation. It also opens up new avenues for the development of technologies that can help people solve similar problems.

In the future, these studies may contribute to the development of new navigation methods for robots and autonomous systems. Understanding how birds sense magnetic fields could have important applications in a variety of fields, including aviation, ecology and scientific research. For example, these discoveries could lead to new navigation systems for drones that can avoid obstacles and navigate in space using magnetic fields.

In addition, this study makes an important contribution to our understanding of avian migratory routes. The ability to sense magnetic fields helps birds navigate long distances and find their way to wintering or breeding grounds. This highlights the importance of preserving the natural habitats of birds and their migratory corridors.

Overall, the discovery that avian brains can sense magnetic fields is a significant step in understanding the complex mechanisms of orientation in animals. This gives us new insight into how animals perceive the world around them and use this information to survive and migrate.
