For the lighting design of a Christmas tree, a room or a shop window, light garlands are often used, designed for a supply voltage of 220 V.

The scheme of the device allows you to automatically control the inclusion of three garlands, which not only attracts attention, but also helps to create a festive mood. In this case, depending on the position of the sliders of the variable resistors, the series of pulses at the corresponding outputs will be different, which makes the tanning effect not periodic. This does not tire the eyesight during prolonged operation of the device, as in the case of the same given sequence of turning on the garlands.

The switching of garlands is carried out by thyristors VS1...VS3. The switching on of thyristors is controlled by transistor switches VT1 ... VT3, the base of which receives a signal from two sources - pulse generators on the elements of the D1 microcircuit and network pulsation passing through variable resistors R7, R12, R16.
Depending on the position of the corresponding resistor slider, as a result of mixing different-frequency signals, different transistor control signals are formed, which forms different series of light pulses.

The device is designed for connection to each channel of lamps with a current consumption of not more than 1 A (load power 220 W), however, if thyristors are installed on radiators, and diodes VD1 ... VD4 are used more powerful (KD206 (A-B) or similar) , the allowable load current of each channel will increase to 2 A.

To suppress possible radio interference arising from the operation of thyristors, a filter is included in the power supply circuit of the device, consisting of a T1 inductor and capacitors C1, C2 of the K73-16V type for 400 V or similar. The inductor is wound on two ferrite rings glued together, size K20x12x6 mm, made of 2000NM grade ferrite. Both windings contain 30 turns of PEV-2 wire with a diameter of 0,51 mm. Other capacitors: C1-C4, C6 - K73-17; C5, C7 ... C9 - K53-4 for 16 V. Variable resistors are used of the SPO-0,5 type (the value can be 12 kOhm), the remaining resistors are of the C2-23 type.

Any low-power transistors of appropriate conductivity can be used in the circuit.

A jumper made of copper wire with a diameter of 1 ... 0,12 mm is installed as fuse F0,16. The mains switch can be any, with a permissible switching current of at least 3 A.

The overall dimensions of the device do not exceed 130x130x30 mm.

Methyl found in space 07.07.2023

Although the existence of active methyl cations in protoplanetary disks was suggested 40 years ago, it is only now that this important compound has been discovered and confirmed.

In 1977, a hypothesis was formulated that the monovalent methane radical, namely the methyl cation (CH3+), plays a decisive role in initiating chemical processes in the interstellar medium. However, detecting this molecular formation outside our solar system has proved extremely difficult.

Perhaps this is due to the high activity of methyl: its average lifetime in the free form is usually less than a thousandth of a second. As a result, it is unlikely to find a large number of such cations in one place and at one time, so that they can be detected using terrestrial telescopes.

However, thanks to an international team of astronomers, traces of methyl have been found in the protoplanetary disk d203-506, located in the Orion Nebula, using data from the James Webb Space Telescope and spectroscopic analysis. Star formation processes are actively taking place in this region, and d203-506 is the embryo of a relatively small star system: the mass of its star is approximately five times less than the mass of the Sun, and the mass of the protoplanetary disk is ten times the mass of Jupiter.

Where does this active cation come from in the protoplanetary disk? The researchers suggested that the reason lies in the strong ultraviolet radiation of Orion's Trapezoid, a compact cluster of stars located nearby. Under the influence of such radiation, hydrogen molecules (also found in the d203-506 composition) go into excited vibrational states, which makes them very active and facilitates their interaction with carbon, resulting in the formation of free methyl.

However, as the scientists note in an article published in the journal Nature, there are still several questions related to the excitation, chemical properties and spectroscopy of this molecule. Additional research is needed to definitively understand the role of CH3+ in the organic chemistry of the cosmos. This is important for elucidating the mechanisms of formation of more complex compounds in young stellar systems.
