Trying to repeat the design of the power supply for the Chizhevsky chandelier [1], I could not find a suitable basis for the manufacture of a high-voltage transformer. The obsolete deflecting system of the TV that had expired, or rather, the ferrite magnetic circuit from it, helped to get out of the difficulty.

As it turned out later, the magnetic circuits of the deflecting system of various TVs, including imported ones, are suitable for business. The best results were obtained with a magnetic core having a larger outer diameter of 78 mm and a smaller outer diameter of 50 mm. First, both parts of the magnetic circuit are glued tightly, without a gap, with superglue or epoxy glue. Excess glue protruding from the gap should not be removed. Then the resulting ferrite ring is wrapped with an insulating tape made of fluoroplast or varnished cloth.

Next, the primary winding is wound, consisting of 30 turns of PEV-2 wire with a diameter of 0,51-0,8 mm. The coils are placed evenly around the entire circumference of the magnetic circuit. Outside, the primary winding is covered with several layers of insulating tape. The secondary winding - 1 500 - 2000 turns of PELSHO 0,1 wire - is wound turn to turn on the inside of the magnetic circuit. Each winding layer is covered with several layers of thin fluoroplastic tape, making sure that the wire turns of each upper winding layer are separated by tape from the underlying one. The connection points of the wire in cases of its breakage must be soldered and insulated with short pieces of insulating tape. Outside, the finished transformer is covered with molten pure paraffin and wrapped with several layers of insulating tape. The view of the finished product is shown in the figure.

The specified number of turns is selected empirically.

Transformers manufactured according to the described method work reliably, have been tested for long-term operation and provide a voltage of about 30 kV at the output of a three-stage multiplier. The high voltage at the output was measured with a kilovoltmeter assembled according to the scheme from the article [2]. With some caution, the voltage can be estimated from the length of the gap pierced by a spark at the rate of 1 mm - 1 kV. The length of the stably punched gap should be approximately 25 mm. If the voltage is insufficient, you will have to add another stage to the multiplier.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Honda S-Dream rocket car sets speed record 28.09.2016

The unique S-Dream car became the fastest car in its class according to the FIA classification - category "A", group 1, class 4.

S-Dream looks like a rocket. The record race took place on the dry salt lake Bonneville (Utah, USA). At a distance of one mile and one kilometer, the S-Dream car showed a result of about 421 km / h. Thus, the Honda record set in 2006 on the BAR Honda F1 car was moved.

The 421 km/h figure is especially impressive when you consider that the S-Dream is equipped with an engine with a displacement of only 660 cubic centimeters. The power unit installed on the Honda S660 was chosen as the motor. Engineers have carefully examined every detail and made a number of improvements specifically for the race at Lake Bonneville. Before sending the car to the US, experts conducted a series of tests in Japan.

The Bonneville Speed Challenge started at Honda's subsidiary R&D in Japan in 2015. Of the 100 who wished to take part in the preparation, 16 specialists were selected, who developed the S-Dream car.
