A quartz resonator (Fig. 1a) can be represented by an equivalent circuit in the form of a series circuit RkLkSk, shunted by capacitances of metallized surfaces and a quartz holder Co, as well as by a mounting capacitance Cm (Fig. 1b).

Ris.1

Dynamic resistance Rk, inductance Lk and capacitance Sk are determined by the mechanical resonance frequency of the quartz plate and the amount of losses occurring in the resonator. The value of the capacitance Co is determined by the geometric dimensions and physical properties of the plate and the design of the quartz holder, for each resonator it is a constant value. Capacitance Cm depends on the design of the socket, the location of the wires, the capacitance between the points of connection of the resonator to the device, etc.

The resonator according to the equivalent circuit can be considered either as a series circuit RkLkKk, or as a parallel circuit RkLkKk(Сo+См'). In accordance with this, the behavior of the resonator at different frequencies is determined.

Figure 2 shows the dependence of the reactance of the resonator on the frequency of the alternating voltage applied to it. At low frequencies, capacitance Ck is decisive, the resonator behaves like a capacitance.

As the frequency increases, the capacitance decreases, and at some frequency flast, called the serial resonance frequency or resonant frequency of the resonator, it becomes equal to zero. The resonator exhibits the properties of a series circuit, its impedance is minimal and equal to the active resistance Rk. The serial resonance frequency is

With a further increase in frequency, the inductive resistance of the resonator increases, and at the frequency fsteam the resonator acquires the properties of a parallel circuit, which at resonance has infinitely large and equal in absolute value inductive and capacitive resistances.

With an even greater increase in frequency, the shunting effect of the capacitances Co and Cm begins to affect, and the resonator acts as a capacitor of small capacitance.

The parallel resonance frequency is expressed by the formula

As can be seen from the formula, the frequency fsteam depends on the capacitance cm, so it can vary within certain limits.

The ratio of the frequencies of parallel and series resonance is determined by the expression:

The difference between these frequencies is small, the maximum difference is close to 0,4% of the series resonance frequency.

Consequently, the measurement of the resonant frequency of a quartz resonator using instruments can be carried out by the same methods that are used to determine the resonant frequency of the circuits.

To determine the frequency of the series resonance of the resonator, it is connected between the output of the signal generator and the input of a high-frequency tube voltmeter (Fig. 3). The output voltage of the generator should be about 100 mV, the voltmeter is set to a measurement limit of 1-8 V. With a generator frequency equal to flast the voltmeter needle deviates sharply to the right. Due to the high quality factor of the quartz resonator, the band of frequencies transmitted by it is very narrow, therefore, the generator frequency should be changed slowly, otherwise the voltmeter, due to its inertia, does not have time to respond to the received short voltage pulse.

The frequency measurement error with this method is determined by the calibration error of the generator. The disadvantage of this method is the significant time spent on passing the ranges of the generator.

It should be borne in mind that some resonators have side resonant frequencies, but at these frequencies the voltmeter readings are much lower than the readings obtained at the main resonant frequency.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

When playing with a child, look at him 08.05.2016

The more adults are distracted by playing with children, the worse these children themselves develop the ability to focus their attention on something. This observation was made by psychologists from the University of Indiana (USA), under the guidance of professors Chen Yu (Chen Yu) and Linda Smith (Linda Smith).

The authors of the study attached video cameras to the heads of parents and their children who played together, fixing the direction of their views. (The experiment involved very young children who are just learning to distinguish and name objects of the world around them.) It turned out that when the child and the teacher looked at an object together for at least 3,6 seconds, the child's attention was kept on this object on average 2,3 s longer.

Moreover, attentive educators much less often had to specifically draw the attention of children to a particular object in the course of educational games. They could simply give the child the initiative, and when the child showed interest in one of the toys, they could simply say the name aloud and encourage further play.

All this only works if the adult's attention is genuine, as impartially captured by the video.

“Many parents actually tried really hard,” Professor Yu said. “They tried to demonstrate their parenting qualities by showing their children toys and saying the names of objects. But when you look at the camera recordings, you actually see how the eyes of children ] wandered around the ceiling or was directed somewhere behind the back of an adult - they did not show attention.

So, while playing with your child, you should not look at the ceiling or at the phone screen, thereby setting a bad example. After all, the development of a child's ability to concentrate is one of the most important conditions for his success in the future life. Attentive children who are able to concentrate learn languages faster, solve math problems better, and so on.
