This machine reduces the current surges through the lighting lamp at the moment it is turned on. When the contacts of the switch Q1 are closed, the EL1 lamp begins to glow half-heartedly, since the current flows through it only during the positive half-cycles of the mains voltage on the lower, according to the circuit, power wire. During the negative half-cycles, the capacitor C1 is charged. As soon as the voltage across the capacitor reaches the stabilization voltage of the zener diode VD2, the trinistor VS1 will open and the lamp will flash almost to full heat.

Extending the life of an incandescent lamp
Fig. 1

The parts shown in the diagram are designed to operate the machine with a lamp (or lamps) up to 150 watts. For a more powerful load (500 ... 700 W), you need to install a VD3 diode with a permissible rectified current of 2 ... 3 A (for example, KD202L). In this case, the trihistor can not be installed on the radiator.

The machine is adjusted with the VD3 diode turned off. Instead of resistor R3, it is desirable to temporarily solder a variable with a resistance of 15 kOhm or 22 kOhm. A few seconds after the device is connected to the network, the EL1 lamp should light up with a flickering light. If there is no glow, the current of the control electrode of the trinistor is selected with a variable resistor. Then measure the voltage across the capacitor. If it exceeds 50 V, replace the capacitor with another one with a higher rated voltage or install a zener diode with a lower stabilization voltage.

After that, the VD3 diode is connected and the alternating voltage on the lamp is measured. You can change it in one direction or another by selecting the resistor R1, but it is undesirable to significantly reduce the resistance of the resistor compared to that indicated in the diagram, otherwise the duration of the preliminary heating of the lamp filament will decrease (it should not be less than 2 s) - until the trinistor is turned on.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Solar panels are thinner than cobwebs 19.04.2012

Scientists have developed flexible solar panels with a thickness of about 1,9 micrometers.
Austrian and Japanese researchers have unveiled solar panels thinner than cobwebs and so flexible that they can be wrapped around a human hair.

The new technology opens up the possibility of creating thin-film devices with electrodes only about 1,9 micrometers thick - that's 1/10th the thickness of today's thinnest solar panels.

The ultra-thin solar panel can find the widest application, because its weight is so small that it cannot be felt by a human hand. The thinnest flexible polymer-based solar panels can be embedded in clothing, mobile electronic devices, aircraft, medical sensors for the elderly, space technology, etc.

At the same time, the new panels have the main advantage of traditional ones - scalability. In other words: the larger the solar panel, the more electricity it produces. Also, due to its small thickness and flexibility, the new solar panel is more resistant to fracture and puncture damage. In particular, it can be stretched by 300%, and the panel will continue to work.

The efficiency of converting light into electricity in the new panel is low: about 4,2%. However, for such a technology, this is already an achievement, because modern heavy silicon panels cannot be applied, for example, to a light sail of a yacht. According to the developers, the novelty will go on commercial sale within five years.
