With the help of this smoke detector smoke or high concentrations of opaque dust particles suspended in the air can be detected The device can be used in hot shops (foundries, welding), cement plants, woodworking enterprises, garages and closed parking lots. The device will notify you of a high concentration of smoke, harmful dust suspensions and automatically turn on the forced ventilation system. The device can be set to high power and spread the smoke sensor tubes over a long distance and, conversely, to high sensitivity.

The device diagram is shown in figure. The smoke sensor consists of a VD1 LED and a VD2 photodiode operating in the infrared region of the spectrum. The light from the AL301 type LED passes through the gap between the tubes and illuminates the VD2 photodiode of the FD206 type. The photodiode opens, and a positive voltage appears on its cathode, which is fed to the inverting input of the operational amplifier DA1. A reference voltage is supplied to the second input of the amplifier from the output of the variable resistor R4. This resistor sets the sensitivity. In the absence of smoke or dust in the air, the voltage at the cathode of the photodiode VD2 exceeds the voltage taken from the variable resistor R4 engine, so the voltage at the output of the operational amplifier DA1 is close to zero. In this case, the VD3 LED does not light up, but the element DD1.1. locked.

If for some reason the transparency of the air deteriorates (the appearance of smoke, dust), then the illumination of the VD2 photodiode decreases. The current through the photodiode decreases, and the voltage on its cathode also decreases and becomes less than the voltage on the R4 engine. The voltage at the output of the operational amplifier DA1 becomes close to the supply voltage, and the element DD1.1 is unlocked. On elements DD1.1., DD1.2. assembled low-frequency generator. At the output of element 11 DD1.2. there are pulses with a frequency of 4 Hz, which periodically allow the operation of another audio frequency generator, assembled on the elements DD1.3., DD1.4. and generating a signal at a frequency of 1000 Hz. The BA1 piezoceramic emitter reproduces an intermittent alarm signal, while the VD3 LED also lights up. Structurally, the sensor is made in the form of two opaque tubes with a diameter of 4 mm and a length of 75 mm. A VD1 LED and a VD2 photodiode are inserted along the edges of the tubes. The other edges of the tubes are turned towards each other. With this arrangement, the photodiode is not affected by extraneous infrared radiation.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The bandage will take care of the wound on its own 04.01.2016

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a new type of bandage with electronics and drugs inside that can monitor and care for a wound without human assistance.

The durable bandage is made of hydrogel, it is flexible enough and does not restrict movement, even if you are on your knee or elbow. It also has innovative sensors that monitor skin temperature and automatically release anti-infection medicine.

The hydrogel is 90% water and is designed to mimic the properties of human skin. The gel creates a strong bond with materials such as titanium, aluminum, silicon, ceramic, gold and other substances commonly used in electronic components. Titanium wires running through the gel make the bandage conductive, allowing it to be embedded with electronic devices such as semiconductor chips. It also has LEDs installed, they light up when the temperature in the wound reaches a certain limit or the medicine runs out. Reservoirs for medicines are created in gel and delivered to the wound through special channels.

The next step for the bandage is to remotely alert the doctor if the wound needs urgent expert care. The lead researcher and creator of the new bandage, Zuanghe Zhao, hopes to create flexible, organic smart gel-like electronics that can be implanted directly into the body or even into the brain. A hydrogel internal device can serve, for example, as a glucose level sensor, and similar materials can also become the basis for creating neuroshunts.

“The brain is a bowl of jelly,” says Zhao. “Right now, researchers are testing different soft materials to achieve long-term biocompatibility of neurodevices. We offer a more durable hydrogel as an ideal material for neurotechnology, since it can be created with the same mechanical and physiological properties like the brain."
