Often one hears reproaches about the premature burnout of electric lamps. And although they are mostly fair, I am not going to join the pessimists. After all, the solution to this technical problem can be found even in a home workshop.

In particular, I turn on my electric lamps in the kitchen, in the corridor, in the pantry and in the bathroom not directly, but through diode voltage converters. I was convinced that the service life of light sources during such operation increases many, many times, since the reliability of the lamp increases mainly due to the under-draining of the tungsten spiral when a "half-wave" current passes through it.

To embed an economy diode in an electrical circuit, free niches of switches, special adapters, and even the lamp base itself are usually used. But in all these options, semiconductor valves are required, designed for the maximum forward current I max and the maximum reverse voltage Uobr.max. Hence the difficulty.

So, a low-power diode D226B works great in tandem with a 60-watt lamp. But he obviously "does not pull" when a 100 W lamp is screwed into the socket. This means that a medium-power semiconductor valve is needed, but it costs more than any D226.

I offer my own version using a ready-made semiconductor assembly - a diode bridge, which has at least one shoulder in good order. For example, the widely used one-ampere KTs402A, KTs402B, KTs402V, KTs402G and KTs402D with Uobr.max 500, 400, 300, 200 and 100 V, respectively, are well suited for these purposes.

In size, the diode bridge is slightly smaller than the terminal block and it is easy to find additional space for its embedding. You can hide everything in a cap that hides the lamp suspension hook.

With such a connection, any incandescent lamp does not burn out for a long time even in the most unstable electrical network (insulation in the form of a PVC tube is conventionally not shown): 1 - cartridge with a lamp; 2 - "chandelier" terminal block; 3 - diode bridge of the KTs402 series in the case; 4 - mounting wires

To install a semiconductor "limiter-economy" it is necessary to solder to the pins of a serviceable bridge shoulder along a piece of copper wire 50-100 mm long and 1,5 mm2 in cross section. Put PVC tubes on them (to avoid accidental short circuits) and connect them to the terminal block on one side, and on the other, connect the neutral wire and any of the two terminals of the electric socket with the lamp.

The remaining output of the electric cartridge must be connected to the wire from the switch and insulated this place. If a twisted connection is undesirable (especially when electrically corrosive pairs of the copper-aluminum type are in contact), then a typical "chandelier" block with three terminals is more acceptable.

Of course, in any case, installation is carried out only with a de-energized network!

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Tablet PC ZenPad C 7.0 09.08.2015

Asus introduced the ZenPad C 7.0, a new tablet computer running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The novelty has a screen with a diagonal of 7 inches and is available in two versions of the processor platform, supports voice calls and 3G mobile Internet as an option.

The tablet computer has a design with elements of the Asus corporate identity, reflecting the philosophy of Zen. The back panel of the tablet received an original embossed leather finish. Thanks to the rounded corners of the case and the non-slip coating, the tablet is comfortable to hold in your hand.

ZenPad C 7.0 is available in Wi-Fi (Z170C), 3G and mobile telephony (Z170CG, Z170MG) versions, so each user can choose a device that will suit their personal needs. ZenPad C 7.0 Z170C and Z170CG are equipped with Atom x3 processor, which provides high performance, smooth video playback and low power consumption. ZenPad C 7.0 Z170MG is equipped with a high-speed 64-bit 4-core MTK processor. Thanks to the 2-megapixel main and 0,3-megapixel front cameras with Asus PixelMaster technology, the user can take high-quality photos and shoot videos even in low light conditions.

The new Asus ZenPad C 7.0 is optimized for multimedia applications, so it is equipped with an IPS screen with viewing angles up to 178 degrees and high-quality color reproduction. The Asus VisualMaster technology suite, which includes Asus Tru2Life and Asus TruVivid technologies, utilizes state-of-the-art imaging processes and delivers high quality images.

So, Asus Tru2Life allows you to automatically change the contrast and sharpness of the picture in order to increase the range of displayed shades. In turn, Asus TruVivid is a display manufacturing method that reduces the number of layers of different materials from six to two, which contributes to a sharper, brighter and more colorful image, and also increases the sensitivity of the touch screen.

ZenPad C 7.0, like all representatives of the Asus ZenPad line, supports the new DTS-HD Premium Sound technology, which converts a stereo signal into a virtual multi-channel sound when played through headphones or the tablet's built-in speakers.
