It often happens when someone in the household forgets to turn off the light in the toilet behind him - he can burn there for many hours without use. A simple automatic device is proposed, which, when necessary, turns on the light in the toilet, and when it is not necessary, turns it off. The electrical circuit of such a device is shown in Figure 1. It contains: a low-power transformer T1, a rectifier VD1 - VD4, a filter capacitor C1, two limit switches SB1 and SB2, a relay K1. How does the device work and how does it perform its functions?

When the door is closed, the limit switch SB2 is open, as is the relay K1, the light does not light up in this position in the toilet.

We open the door - the limit switch SB2 closes the relay K1 and the lamp lights up.

Entering the toilet, we close the door on the latch behind us. In this case, the second limit switch SB1 is closed, the relay is activated and remains closed; the light will remain on until this limit switch opens.

Figures 2 and 4 show a foot made of 0,5 mm thick sheet metal that presses the limit switch SB2. The heel is fixed on the door in such a way that even if the door is not completely closed (which happens quite often), the switch opens the relay circuit. The light will go out.

Figure 3 shows an industrial production limit switch. Any similar one having a normally closed contact can be used as it. To improve the reliability of the device, the contact is equipped with a pressure flag made of the same 0,5 mm sheet as the heel. Getinax is glued to its lower part, facing the heel (textolite is also possible).

The limit switch SB1, as the reader probably already guessed, is a latch. Its metal parts are connected by conductors to the device circuit. Since the voltage on the parts of the latch does not exceed 9 V DC, it is completely safe for humans.

A step-down transformer can be taken from an old mobile phone - the one that was used to charge it. When using a reed relay RES64A (724) or RES55A (601), the power consumption of the transformer will not exceed half a watt.

When installing the device, electrical safety measures must be observed. All connections of the device to the network can only be made with a de-energized line. Since apartments, as a rule, have two independent lines, you can illuminate the workplace with a portable lamp connected to another line.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Computer displays instead of glasses and contact lenses 29.07.2014

Specialists from the University of California at Berkeley (USA), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and Microsoft Corporation are developing a new type of computer display that will allow people with various visual impairments to clearly see images without glasses or contact lenses.

The essence of the technology is as follows. Based on information about the degree of deviation of the user's vision from the norm, software algorithms correct the image in real time in a special way. On top of the screen is a special acrylic light filter with tiny holes corresponding to the array of pixels. As a result, the rays passing through the filter reach the user's eyes in such a way that he perceives a clear picture - as if looking at the display through glasses.

Researchers have already developed a prototype of the new system, but it is not yet ready for the commercial market. The thing is, there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. So, for now, the image can be clearly seen only from a certain distance. It is planned to circumvent this shortcoming by using a complex for tracking the position of the head and eyes of a person looking at the screen.

In addition, in its current form, the system allows only one user to view a clear image - for other people looking at the screen, the picture looks blurry. It may be possible to solve this problem through the use of high-resolution panels and advanced image processing algorithms.
