This device can be useful in a country house or a farm, as well as in many other cases when it is necessary to control and maintain a certain level of water in the tank.

So, when using a submersible pump to pump water from a well for irrigation, it is necessary to ensure that the water level does not drop below the position of the pump. Otherwise, the pump, idling (without water), will overheat and fail.

The scheme of the universal automatic device (Fig. 1) will help you get rid of all these problems. It is simple and reliable, and also provides for the possibility of multifunctional use (water lifting or drainage).

Pump control circuit

The circuit circuits are not connected in any way with the tank body, which excludes electrochemical corrosion of the tank surface, unlike many previously published circuits of a similar purpose.

The principle of operation of the circuit is based on the use of electrical conductivity of water, which, falling between the plates of the sensors, closes the base current circuit of the transistor VT1. In this case, relay K1 is activated and with its contacts K1.1 turns on or off (depending on position 82) the pump.

As sensors F1, F2, you can use plates made of any metal that is not subject to corrosion in water. So, for example, you can use a used stainless razor (Fig. 2).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Stable miniature 3D airgel objects 26.08.2020

Researchers at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) have created stable, well-shaped microstructures from silica airgel using a 3D printer. The printed structures can be up to tenths of a millimeter thick. The new silica airgel has better mechanical properties and can even be drilled and milled. This opens up completely new possibilities for post-processing 3D printed airgel molds.

Silica-based airgel are lightweight, porous foams that provide excellent thermal insulation. This material is very brittle, and therefore large airgel objects are usually reinforced with organic or bipolymer fibers. Turning small items from larger ones is not an easy task. And immediately printing a miniature object is even more difficult.

The new method developed by Empa scientists makes it possible to obtain small and stable objects from airgel. Using the method, it is possible to fine-tune the flow and solidification properties of silicon ink, from which airgel is subsequently obtained, so that it is possible to print both self-supporting structures and thin membranes. As an example of such structures, the researchers printed the leaves and inflorescences of a lotus flower. The test object floats on the surface of the water due to the hydrophobic properties and low density of the silica airgel - just like its natural model. The new technology also makes it possible for the first time to print complex XNUMXD microstructures from multiple materials.

Using a printed airgel membrane, the researchers constructed a "thermomolecular" gas pump that operates without any moving parts ("Knudsen pump"). The principle of operation is based on the limited transfer of gas in a network of nanosized pores or one-dimensional channels, the walls of which are hot at one end and cold at the other. The team built such an airgel pump that was coated on one side with black manganese oxide nanoparticles. When a light source is directed at it, the pump heats up on the dark side and begins to pump gases or solvent vapors.

Such a pump, which is powered solely by sunlight, can not only pump air, but also purify it. If there are contaminants or toxins in the air - such as the solvent toluene - the air can circulate through the membrane several times and the contaminant is chemically destroyed by a reaction catalyzed by the manganese oxide nanoparticles.
