With the advent of summer, it is pleasant to enjoy the beautiful weather, being in the courtyard of a country house, in the country house or in the garden. And even if your site is not surrounded by swamps, lakes or water channels, most likely there will be annoying and biting mosquitoes during your vacation to ruin this idyllic picture.

There are many methods and means by which you can easily get rid of the invasion of mosquitoes. To prevent their penetration into the room at the entrance, destroyers are installed with electric current or ultraviolet rays. Mosquitoes and other insects, attracted by the light of the lamp, fly through the electric field and die. Under the net, a mass of dead insects accumulates, which must be periodically removed.

Using spray sprays or smoking spirals, which are very often repelled by mosquitoes, do not forget that they are not safe for human health. It is worth noting that many of these methods can cope with insects indoors, but cannot be effectively used outdoors.

The ultrasonic mosquito repellent device is shown in the figure and designed taking into account the fact that only female mosquitoes usually bite during the breeding season. At this time, females tend to avoid males and fly away from the territory where there are frequencies emitted by males. According to some publications, the frequency emitted by male mosquitoes is in the range from 20 to 25 kHz, i.e. in the ultrasonic range, and according to others - in the region from 5 to 7 kHz, these frequencies can be heard by the human ear.

Based on the foregoing, the author assembled a simple device, the circuit of which is shown in the figure.

Mosquito repeller on a chip

The circuit is based on the 4047 multivibrator, the operating frequency is set by the mounted components C1, R1 and P1. Potentiometer P1 allows you to slightly adjust the frequency.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Approved a single standard chargers for all gadgets 02.12.2022

European Union environment ministers have finally approved the introduction of a common standard for chargers for small electronic gadgets by 2024.

USB type-C will become mandatory for a number of devices such as mobile phones, tablets and e-readers, digital cameras and game consoles, headphones and speakers, wireless mice and keyboards and portable navigation systems.

The rules will apply 24 months after they go into effect, likely in the fall of 2024.

For laptops, there is a longer transition period of 40 months, which means that a common single device for laptops will appear in early 2026.

"Having a charger that fits multiple devices will save money and time and help us reduce e-waste," said Czech Industry Minister Józef Sikella.
