The use of high frequency current at high voltage for electronic engraving makes it possible to engrave with very thin strokes both on wood and on other charring materials.

The engraving process is based on the passage of high-frequency currents (80 kHz and higher) through small parasitic capacitances, in which an electric arc occurs between the tip of the cutter and the engraved surface.

The engraving process provides great opportunities and requires less effort than burning. The source of high-frequency current is a generator, the electrical circuit of which is shown in the figure.

The master oscillator is assembled on transistors VT1 and VT2. Transistor VT1 provides amplification of the feedback signal taken from the resistor R2.

The oscillation frequency is determined by the input and output conductance of the transistors VT1 and VT2 and the inductance of the coil L1. The change in the generation frequency occurs due to a change in the conductivity of the transistors when the supply voltage changes.

The supply of the master oscillator is from an adjustable voltage stabilizer on transistors VT5 and VT6. By changing the output voltage of the stabilizer with resistor R12, we adjust the frequency of the generated oscillations within 80 ... 150 kHz. The signal from the master oscillator through the emitter follower on the transistor VT3 is fed to the output stage on the transistor VT4, in the collector circuit of which the primary winding of the transformer T2 is turned on. The voltage from the secondary winding is applied to the cutter. The cutter is a rod with a sharply honed end, inserted into a holder made of PTFE or other material. The lower end of the secondary winding of the transformer T2 is connected to the metal electrode 2 through the capacitor C5. which protects against a short circuit mode when the cutter 1 touches the electrode 2 when the arc is excited. By turning on the VD1 diode, there will be negative high-frequency voltage pulses on the cutter, which form an arc through parasitic capacitances in the material.

Details and construction

Power transformer T1 - type TPP261-220-50.

As a coil L1, a standard choke type DM-01 with an inductance of 450 μH is used.

Electrolytic capacitors C2 and C8 of type K50-6, designed for a voltage of 25 V, and C4, C6 and C7 for a voltage of 50 V.

Transformer T2 is made on the core from the horizontal scanning transformer TVS90LTs5. The primary winding contains 28 turns of PEL-2 wire 0,8 mm, the secondary winding contains 550 turns of PEL-2 wire with a diameter of 0,3 mm. The secondary winding of the transformer is wound in layers, the layers are separated by spacers made of insulating paper. The finished coil must be impregnated with paraffin.

Setting

Setting up a generator comes down to setting the optimal frequency at which the generator delivers the most power and works stably.

The engraved product is pressed against a metal electrode, a cutter is brought up, an arc is formed, and the necessary generator power is set with resistor R5, depending on the thickness of the applied strokes.

Attention! Care must be taken when working with the generator.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New ultra-fast DAC 25.10.2006

Maxim Integrated Products introduced the MAX 12 19692-bit D/A converter with a speed of 2,3 Gsample per second and the ability to directly synthesize a high-frequency wideband signal several times the Nyquist criterion, setting new industry standards for high-speed D/A converters.

The MAX19692 provides direct signal synthesis up to 1 GHz for input frequency ranges from DC to over 2 GHz. The converter provides excellent dynamic performance, including 68 dB spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at an output frequency of 1200 MHz (when operating in the third Nyquist zone). The SFDR value is 14 dB higher than competing devices operating at the same high frequency.

"Increasing its leadership in data processing technology, Maxim has developed a new high-speed DAC architecture that delivers advances in speed, dynamic range, and the ability to exceed the Nyquist criterion by many times the output frequency. In addition to these high performance, a significant reduction in power consumption has been achieved," stated Ted Tewkesbury ( Ted Tewksbury, Head of High-Speed Signal Processing at Maxim.
