I once bought seedlings in a store (two eight-year-old apple trees). The roots were "bare" (without land), while he drove, while he was about to plant ... Will they take root? But he planted them according to all the rules of agricultural technology. One apple tree soon began to show signs of life, and the second did not.

I waited two more weeks. No kidney movement. I decided to help the apple tree with electrical stimulation.

Somewhere in the literature I read that a negative potential should be applied to the top of the plant. I brought an adjustable power supply and a multimeter to the garden plot. I plunged a metal pin 400 mm long into the ground at the roots of an apple tree, connected it to the "+" of the power supply. I connected the top of the apple tree to the "-" power supply with a wire with a "crocodile" at the end.

Stimulation of plants with current

I turned on the power supply and, controlling it with a multimeter, began to gradually raise the current, but it did not increase more than 3 μA. I thought the apple tree was dead! I set the current between 2 and 3 uA. Most likely, the fluctuations were due to the influence of the multimeter. He conducted a session of resuscitation of a tree for 4 hours.

Literally the next day, the kidneys began to grow. Moreover, an additional branch went from below, which was not observed in the second tree.

To simplify the hardware part of "resuscitation", I propose to conduct all this from a single 1,5 V battery. Since the plant usually has a large "input" resistance (250 kOhm), it is easy to obtain a current of 2 μA using a simple resistive divider. In general, the circuit draws a current of 50 µA, so one battery will last a long time.

I believe that the second resuscitation session will not be required. The main thing is to excite the plant's own membrane process (osmosis).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Vortex electron microscope 20.11.2012

Electron microscopes are an extremely important scientific tool, especially in the field of materials science. Scientists from the Vienna University of Technology have improved this device and created an electron beam that rotates like a tornado. Vortex electron beams can be used not only to display the objects under study, but also to study the properties of materials on a nanometer scale.

In a tornado, individual air molecules do not necessarily rotate around their axis, but the general suction of the entire mass of air creates a powerful vortex. Rotating electron beams behave in a similar way, although they are primarily subject to quantum effects. Electrons behave like waves, and these quantum waves can spin like a tornado or water behind a ship's propeller. One of the advantages of the vortex electron microscope is that the vortex of electrons can transfer angular momentum to the object of study. As is known, the angular momentum of electrons in solid materials is closely related to its magnetic properties, which are very important for science.

The first successes in the creation of a vortex electron microscope were achieved two years ago, when an electron beam was passed through a tiny grid that divided the beam into three partial beams (one rotated to the right, the other to the left, and the third did not rotate). Now a more advanced version of this technology has been developed, does not require splitting the beam into three parts. For this, a screen was created, half of which is covered with a layer of silicon nitride. This layer is so thin that electrons can penetrate it with little or no absorption, but the screen leads to a phase shift and, with the help of special astigmatic lenses, effectively swirls the electron beam.

The new microscope produces an electron vortex that is an order of magnitude more powerful than a similar beam produced by any of the other existing facilities. Scientists look forward to using the vortex electron microscope to study the magnetic properties of the latest nanomaterials. Also, the new tool can be used in exotic research, for example, to rotate individual molecules with it, which can be useful in the development of materials with special properties.
