The automatic light switch, the circuit of which is shown in the figure, turns on the EL1 incandescent lamp when the utility room door is opened, leaves it constantly on when the door is locked from the inside and turns it off after the person has left the room.

Utility room light switch

Reed switch SF1 is installed on the door frame. Its contacts are closed when the door is closed under the action of the field of the magnet installed on it. As long as the internal door latch is not locked, the mechanically connected SA1 switch is open. Transistors VT1, VT2 and triac VS1 are closed, lamp EL1 is disconnected from the mains.

When the door is opened, the reed switch contacts open and the capacitors C3 and C4 begin to charge. After 1 ... 1,5 s, the voltage across the capacitor C4 will become sufficient to open the transistors and the triac and the EL1 lamp will be turned on. The charging of the capacitors continues for some time, and only after it is completed, the capacitor C4 is discharged through the resistor R5. As a result, after 30 ... 40 s, the EL1 lamp goes out.

If the door is closed (without locking it with a latch), the discharge of the capacitor C4 will begin immediately and the lamp will go out after about 10 s. To re-ignite it, it is enough to open the door for a few seconds (the time sufficient to discharge the capacitor C3 through the closed contacts of the reed switch SF1, the resistor R4 and the diode VD5).

When the door latch is locked, the EL1 lamp will light up and stay on, regardless of the position of the door. In this case, the opening voltage is supplied to the base of the transistor VT1 through the resistor R3 and the closed contacts of the switch SA1.

Lamp EL1 can also be turned on by switch SA2. It can be a "regular" wall or specially installed. They are used if it is necessary to turn on the light in the room for a long time with the door open. There is another option. By setting this switch in such a way that its contacts are closed when the door is open (as in a refrigerator), you can not worry about turning the light on and off if you enter the room for a short time, leaving the door open.

In the design, you can use KT361 transistors with letter indices B - E or other low-power p-n-p structures, for example, MP25B. Diodes VD1, VD2, VD5, VD6 - KD105B or D226B. Zener diodes D814G (VD3, VD4) can be replaced with D814V. Capacitor C1 - K73-17 or MBGCH, oxide - K50-35.

The reed switch is placed in a plastic case (for example, the SMK-1 security alarm transmitter) and fixed on the door frame. The magnet is placed on the door. Switch SA1 is mounted in such a way that its contacts are closed when the door is locked with a latch.

Fusible insert FU1 is necessary to protect the triac VS1 when the EL1 lamp burns out. At this point, an electric arc usually occurs inside the lamp and the current flowing through the triac VS1 increases to a dangerous value.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Microsoft HoloLens Augmented Reality Glasses for Surgeons 19.12.2017

Microsoft Corporation spoke about an innovative medical project that is being implemented using HoloLens augmented reality glasses.

The HoloLens platform provides for the use of the concept of "holographic computing". Unlike traditional virtual reality systems, where the physically tangible world around the user is completely covered by the picture, HoloLens glasses allow you to see the surrounding space thanks to light-transmitting lenses.

A new project using Microsoft HoloLens technology was organized by the Madrid Gregorio Marañon Clinic (General Hospital Universitario) together with the Spanish company Exovite. Augmented reality glasses help surgeons remove malignant tumors in the muscles.

The system, called HoloSurg, provides a set of virtual interactive panels projected into the surgeon's field of view, and allows you to see both real and virtual objects.

These panels display vital patient information such as a surgical atlas, 2D and 3D X-ray and tomography images, allowing surgeons to pinpoint the location of tumors to be removed.

The system allows you to display information in any place convenient for the doctor, scanning the room with all the objects in it and creating a three-dimensional map of the real environment. Moreover, virtual panels can be resized, and gestures and voice commands are used to move them.

Mixed reality allows surgeons to quickly access critical information while maintaining the ability to interact with the real world, including with other doctors and patients themselves. Traditional VR headsets do not provide this capability.
