To heat water in the batteries of the heating system, the author uses an automatic gas water heater AGV-80. To improve circulation from the water heater to the batteries, a circulation pump is installed in the return pipe, which equalizes the temperature of the water in the batteries with the heated water in the water heater in 5 ... 6 minutes, after which it can be turned off for 20 ... 25 minutes, and then turned on again for 5.6 minutes, etc. This mode of operation increases the durability of the pump motor, reduces electricity consumption and increases the efficiency of the heating system.

As it turned out, the compressor in the existing refrigerator turns on at about the same frequency. Using this fact, a device was developed, the circuit of which is shown in the figure. As you can see, a resistor R1 is introduced into the power circuit of the refrigerator, on which, when the compressor is operating (the current it consumes is approximately 0,5 A), an alternating voltage drop of about 2 V is created. This voltage is applied to the primary winding of a low-power step-up transformer T1. An alternating voltage of about 12 V induced on its secondary winding is rectified by a diode bridge VD1. The pulsating voltage from it is supplied to the control electrode of the trinistor VS1 and opens it, thereby closing the power supply circuit of the pump motor. Thus, every time the compressor of the refrigerator is turned on, the pump is also turned on, which runs all the time that the compressor is turned on.

An increase in the clarity of turning the pump on and off was achieved by using positive feedback, which consists in the fact that the current it consumes passes through the same resistor R1. In other words, when the pump is turned on, the voltage drop across this resistor increases, and, consequently, the voltage supplied to the control electrode of the trinistor, which increases the reliability of keeping it in the open state. When the compressor is turned off, when the current through the resistor R1 decreases several times, the voltage drop across it becomes insufficient to create a voltage transformer on the secondary winding that can keep the trinistor open, and it closes, turning off the pump. The indicator for turning on the pump is the HL1 LED, which goes out when the trinistor is opened. Resistor R2 limits the current through it when the pump is off at a level of approximately 1 mA.

In series with the trinistor, a DC ammeter PA1 with a measurement limit of 0,6 A is connected to the pump power circuit. Since the pump used has a three-position power switch, depending on its position, the ammeter shows a current of 0,1; 0,15 or 0,2 A, which allows you to judge the actual power of the pump at the moment and, if necessary, optimize it in relation to the temperature of the water in the water heater.

If it is necessary for the pump to work constantly, for example, when severe cold sets in, the two-pole switch SA1 is moved to a position in which its contacts short-circuit the resistor R1 and the diagonal of the diode bridge VD2-VD5.

Transformer T1 - output from a transistor radio (depending on its brand, the transformation ratio can be in the range from about 4 to 7). As winding I, its secondary winding is used, and windings II are used as primary (the tap from its midpoint is left free). Trimmer resistor R1 - wire PEV-R with a power dissipation of at least 3 W, constant R2 and R3 - any type of power indicated in the diagram. Dual switch SA1 - bipolar toggle switch TP1-2 or similar. We can replace the AL307BM LED with any other, preferably with increased brightness. Establishing the device comes down to selecting such a minimum resistance of the resistor R1, at which the device reliably turns on the pump when the mains voltage in the area is minimal.

The described device has been working flawlessly for the author for the second year.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Lunar telescope from improvised materials 13.11.2008

A group of employees of the Goddard Space Flight Center (USA) is designing a giant reflecting telescope on the Moon from improvised material - lunar dust.

By mixing a powder of terrestrial minerals, which mimics moon dust in composition and grain size, with carbon nanotubes and epoxy resin as a binder, the researchers obtained a material like concrete. It remains to form a bowl with a smooth parabolic surface from this material and spray it with a thin reflective layer of aluminum, which in the conditions of a lunar vacuum will not be too difficult.

The diameter of the lunar reflector should be 50 meters, and in ideal conditions of the Moon (there is no atmosphere and all the interference associated with it), such a giant will allow direct observation of planets around other stars.
