OLED instead of incandescent bulbs

The Dutch company Philips and the German company Novaled have developed a white OLED with a brightness of 1000 cd/m2 and a record efficiency of 25 lm/W.

Scientists from the Philips Lighting Division selected the materials, developed the optical matching technology and OLED topology, and Novaled developed the doping technology. According to Klaas Vegter, chief technologist at Philips Lighting, this development showed the possibilities of OLED in terms of their use in lighting applications.

The results of the research will be applied in future developments, ongoing projects and the recently launched European project OLLA (Organic LEDs for Lighting Applications - organic light emitting diodes in lighting applications), in which both companies participate.

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. New DC/DC converter from Texas Instruments 18.07.2007

Texas Instruments introduced the TPS40K, a universal synchronous buck converter that greatly simplifies the power supply of LCD TVs and authorized broadcast set-top boxes that use digital signal processors (DSPs) and programmable FPGA logic. The TPS40195 supports a number of features to improve power performance in systems requiring 4,5V to 20V supply voltages. For example, an integrated circuit uses a converted input voltage for its own power supply, eliminating the need for additional voltages to power the IC.

The TPS40195 controller, which is housed in a 16-pin TSSOP package, has a bi-directional clock pin that allows anti-phase operation with another buck controller. This configuration reduces the capacitance of large capacitors and saves board size and cost when operating with 5V and 12V supplies.

Also, if this pin is connected to the main clock source, then the TPS40195 emits less electromagnetic signal. The controller has excellent current detection capabilities when operating with low duty cycles and limits the power delivered to the load by detecting overcurrent in each high and low MOSFET.
