In the "wow" prefix described below, instead of pedal control, a touch, electronic one is used. The effect is realized when playing stringed instruments with a metal or metallized pick. The strings must be connected to the common wire of the console. At the moment the mediator touches the string, the base circuit (see diagram) of transistor V2 closes. The resistance of the transistor quickly decreases from tens of kiloohms to several ohms, due to which the frequency of the quasi-resonance of the controlled filter of the prefix is tuned.

After opening the mediator and the string, the capacitor C3 will begin to discharge through the resistor R4 and the emitter junction of the transistor V3, which will lead to a reverse tuning of the quasi-resonance frequency of the prefix filter and, at the same time, to a change in the attack of the sound. This creates an interesting sound, slightly different from the usual "wow" effect. Resistor R4 can smoothly change the filter frequency tuning time and sound attack at the request of the performer. In addition, the R4СЗ chain serves to weaken the click at the moment the pick touches the string.

Original wow prefix

When working with a signal source having an output impedance of several kilohms, the attachment provides a filter frequency tuning interval of approximately 200 ... 2500 Hz (it is determined mainly by the values of the capacitors C2, C5 and the resistance of the transistor V2) and an increase in the characteristic at a quasi-resonance frequency of about 15 dB. With an input voltage of 5 mV, the maximum output voltage is about 30 mV. The prefix can work both from the signal from the output of the guitar tone lock, and from the output of any other electronic prefix. In order for the operation of the described device to be less dependent on the difference in the output impedance of various signal sources, a resistor R1 is connected at its input. Applying a signal with a level of more than 10 mV to the input of the set-top box can lead to the appearance of non-linear distortions that are noticeable to the ear.

In order to reduce the level of intrinsic noise, the transistors in the set-top box operate in low current mode. The current drawn from the main power supply is only 0,3 mA. Any element (or battery) with a voltage of 1 ... 1,5 V can be the power source G4,5 of the pick circuit. The current consumed from it at the moment the pick touches the string. - only 10 ... 20 μA.

KT312B transistors in the attachment can be replaced with KT315 with any letter index. Transistor V2 - any low power pnp structure.

A metallized pick can be made from thin formed fiberglass or copper foil can be glued onto a regular pick. The foil is connected to the prefix with a thin shielded wire. The sound will be harder if the player who plays the instrument does not touch the metallized part of the mediator with his fingers, that is, he does not close the G1 source circuit through himself.

To realize the "wow" effect, it is not necessary to touch the string. You can stick a metal plate connected to the common wire of the set-top box on the guitar deck and touch it with a plectrum - this will expand the capabilities of the instrument. The prefix can be successfully used together not only with string EMP.

Establishing the set-top box is reduced to setting the mode of transistors V1, V3. The resistor R2 is selected so that the emitter current of the transistor V1 is approximately 40 ... 50 μA, and V3 is 250 ... 300 μA. In the event of self-excitation in the attachment, resistor R5 should be shunted with a capacitor with a capacity of 10 ... 150 pF.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Babies scream in different languages 02.09.2016

It seems to us that babies cry the same way everywhere, and it’s just stupid to talk about any language differences here - newborns can’t even speak. However, in fact, there are differences between them, at least when comparing children from China, Germany and Cameroon.

It's all about the difference between tone and non-tone languages. As you know, in many languages the meaning of a word depends on the sound pitch at which it is pronounced; pitch variations of syllables and words can completely change the meaning of what we are talking about. One example is Mandarin Chinese, including its variety Putonghua, which is an official language in China, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Northern Chinese has four tones. A more complex case is Lamnso, the language of the Nso people living in Northern Cameroon. Nso communicate with each other already on eight tones, and the meaning of each tone is determined by its variations during the pronunciation of a particular word.

When researchers from the University of Würzburg, the University of Osnabrück and Beijing Normal University compared the sounds made by infants whose mothers spoke German, Mandarin and LamNso, it turned out that the cry of "tonal" children was different from the cries of "non-tonal". Thus, in the cries of NSO infants, the interval between the highest and lowest tone was wider, and the children easily and quickly moved from height to height compared to newborns whose mothers spoke German. In general, the cries of the Cameroonians partly resembled singing.

The same results were obtained when comparing babies from Germanic mothers with babies whose mothers spoke Chinese, only here the differences were not so noticeable - probably because the Chinese language is still "less toned" than Lamnso.

The researchers analyzed the cries of children who were only a day old. New data support the hypothesis that language acquisition by a child occurs already in the later stages of pregnancy: according to the authors of the work, the baby hears the mother’s speech while still in her womb, and already at this time his brain absorbs some pronunciation rules.
