Local oscillators with phase locked loop (PLL) allow quite simple means to solve the problem of creating a highly stable variable frequency signal source for sports VHF equipment. A diagram of such a local oscillator is shown in the figure. It was applied in a receiver for the range 144-146 MHz with one frequency conversion and an intermediate frequency of 10,7 MHz.

The local oscillator consists of a controlled oscillator on the transistor V1. a reference quartz oscillator (KG) and a highly stable smooth range oscillator (GPA), a mixer on a transistor V3, a phase detector on diodes V1, V5 and a DC amplifier on an A1 chip. The elements of the quartz and highly stable smooth range generator are not shown in the figure.

VHF LO with PLL

The controlled oscillator generates a signal that changes when a control voltage is applied to the varicap V2, within 154,7-156.7 MHz. The signal from this generator is fed to one of the gates of the transistor V3 and through the buffer stage to the first mixer of the receiver. A signal with a frequency of 161 MHz is applied to the second gate of the field-effect transistor from the reference quartz oscillator.

The difference signal, the frequency of which can lie in the range of 4,3-6.3 MHz, is selected on the bandpass filter L5C10C11L6C12. This signal, together with a high-frequency voltage from a smooth range generator, is fed to a phase detector. The error signal, passed through the low-pass filter L7C15 and amplified by the operational amplifier A1, is fed to the varicap V2 in the controlled oscillator.

To expand the bandwidth of the bandpass filter L5C10C11L6C12 up to 2 MHz, its circuits are shunted by resistors R9 and R12.

The frequency stability of the output signal of the local oscillator with a PLL is determined mainly by the stability of the smooth range generator, which at low frequencies (in this case 4,3-6.3 MHz) can be obtained very high.

Note

Transistor V1 can be any high-frequency transistor with a maximum generation frequency of at least 300 MHz (for example, KT603A). Transistor V3 - field series KP306 or KP350A, varicap V2 - series KB 102. Diodes V4 and V5 - any high-frequency, for example, series D9. As an operational amplifier, you can use K153UD1A with the appropriate correction circuits. The phase detector transformer can be wound on a ferrite ring with a diameter of 7-10 mm with a permeability of 400-1000 simultaneously with four wires (20 turns). Two windings connected in series form the primary winding of the transformer (the common connection point of the windings is not used), and the other two form the secondary.

The winding data of the inductors L1-L3 and the inductor L4 depend on the frequency range in which the controlled generator must operate, i.e. on the choice of the first intermediate frequency and the tuning range of the GPA.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Dust-resistant, waterproof lenses Canon Dust Donuts 18.01.2013

Canon's L Series lenses are not only distinguished by their high build quality and good optical performance. One of their features is also a high degree of protection against external influences, such as ingress of dust and moisture. Ordinary lenses do not have such protection, and when it rains, moisture may well seep into the camera at the junction of the removable optics with the "carcass".

A new project, Dust Donut, announced on Kickstarter, offers a primitive but effective solution - a ring that is inserted between the camera mount and the lens. According to the creator of the idea, professional photographer Tyler Sterbentz (Tyler Sterbentz), this simple ring protects against dust and moisture. Of course, it will not allow conventional lenses to become as reliable as Elks, but still, an additional degree of protection is unlikely to hurt. Moreover, the cost of such an accessory against the backdrop of the high cost of photographic equipment will not be too expensive - about $25. If the release becomes more massive, the price is likely to drop significantly.
