Previously, all over the world - from America to Australia - a protection system was used based on connecting non-current-carrying conductive parts (cases) of equipment to the ground and a grounded source neutral.

Traditionally this system was called:

  • "nulling" in Russia;
  • "Nullung" in Germany and Austria;
  • PME (protective multiple earthing) in England;
  • MEN (multiple earthed neutral) in Australia, etc.

Her protective action is based on the principle of achieving "zero" potential on the body, i.e. equal to the ground potential, due to repeated grounding and connection of non-current-carrying parts to the neutral. Zeroing, despite a number of shortcomings, for many years served and continues to serve as the main electrical protective tool in millions of electrical installations around the world and, of course, saved many, many human lives.

The TN-S and TN-CS systems are widely used in European countries - Germany, Austria, France, etc. In the TN-S system, all open conductive parts of the electrical installation of the building are connected by a separate zero protective conductor PE directly to the grounding device of the power source.

When installing electrical installations, the rules prescribe the use of yellow-green striped insulation for the protective conductor (PE).

In the TN-CS system in the input switchgear of the electrical installation, the combined zero protective and zero working conductor PEN is divided into zero protective PE and zero working N conductors.

The neutral protective conductor PE is connected to all exposed conductive parts and can be grounded multiple times, while the neutral conductor N must not be connected to earth.

In electrical installations with TN-S and TN-CS grounding systems, the electrical safety of the consumer is ensured not by the systems themselves, but by residual current devices (RCD)operating more efficiently in combination with these grounding systems and a potential equalization system.

Attention! Actually, the grounding systems themselves - without RCDs, do not provide the necessary safety.

For example, in the event of an insulation breakdown on the body of an electrical appliance and in the absence of an RCD, this consumer is disconnected from the network only by overcurrent protection devices - automatic switches or fuse links.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The hormone of love causes aggression 05.07.2020

Oxytocin is called the "love hormone" because it strengthens the emotional bond between people. However, scientists have found that oxytocin can cause aggression. It depends on the conditions in which it is produced.

Israeli researchers conducted experiments with mice. The animals were equipped with a portable device that allows you to activate oxytocin neurons in the brain. To activate, the neurons were modified to synthesize a photosensitive protein. As a result, having received a light pulse, the neurons were activated.

An important feature of the experiment was that the living conditions of the mice were close to natural - the researchers created a "semi-natural" environment for them, making an imitation of the natural landscape. The mice moved freely, and a video camera monitored their lives around the clock.

At the beginning of the experiment, oxytocin surges stimulated the mice to become actively interested in each other. However, interest soon began to give way to irritation and aggression. In semi-natural conditions, mice began to compete with each other for territory and food, and oxytocin began to exacerbate their behavior. For comparison, some mice were kept in a normal laboratory setting, and in these laboratory conditions, where no one has to compete with anyone, oxytocin did not provoke aggressiveness.

From this experiment, we can conclude that oxytocin is more competently called the "hormone of sociality", and by sociality here one must understand the entire spectrum of relationships between individuals, from friendship to enmity.
