In modern industrial production, the most common are temperature measurement. Thus, at a medium-sized nuclear power plant there are about 1500 points where such a measurement is made, and at a large chemical industry enterprise there are more than 20 thousand such points.

A wide range of measured temperatures, a variety of conditions for the use of measuring instruments and requirements for them determine the variety of temperature measuring instruments used.

If we consider temperature sensors for industrial applications, we can distinguish them main classes:

  • silicon temperature sensors;
  • bimetallic sensors;
  • liquid and gas thermometers;
  • thermal indicators;
  • thermistors;
  • thermocouples;
  • resistance thermal converters;
  • infrared sensors.

silicon sensors temperatures use the dependence of the resistance of semiconductor silicon on temperature. Range of measured temperatures -50 °С... +150 °С. They are mainly used to measure the temperature inside electronic devices.

Bimetal sensor made of two dissimilar metal plates fastened together. Different metals have different thermal expansion coefficients. If the metals connected to the plate are heated or cooled, then it will bend, while closing (opening) the electrical contacts or moving the indicator arrow. Range of work of bimetallic sensors -40...+550 °C. Used to measure the surface of solids and the temperature of liquids. The main areas of application are the automotive industry, heating and water heating systems.

Thermal indicators - These are special substances that change their color under the influence of temperature. The color change may be reversible or irreversible. They are produced in the form of films.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Notebook Eurocom Panther 5 17.06.2014

Eurocom announced the availability of the Panther 5 portable computer based on the Intel hardware platform.

The manufacturer calls the device "the most powerful laptop in the universe." In top configurations, it is allowed to install an Intel Core i7-4960X Extreme Edition processor (six cores, a clock frequency of 3,6-4,0 GHz) or a Xeon E5-2697 v2 server chip (twelve cores, a clock frequency of 2,7-3,5, 3 GHz). The amount of RAM DDR1600L-32 reaches XNUMX GB.

Inside the case there is room for four storage devices: Eurocom offers the widest selection of solid state drives, traditional hard drives and hybrid hard drives. The total volume of the storage subsystem reaches 6 TB; organization of arrays RAID 0/1/5/10 is possible.

The laptop is equipped with a 17,3-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (Full HD format). Optionally, it is proposed to install a panel with the ability to display 3D content. The video subsystem is based on one or two discrete graphics accelerators - up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory or NVIDIA Quadro K5000M.

Other characteristics of the computer are as follows: DVD-RW or Blu Ray optical drive (instead of the fourth drive), 2-megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters, Gigabit Ethernet controller, fingerprint sensor, USB 3.0 interfaces (x3), USB 2.0 (x2), eSATA, Firewire-800, DisplayPort v1.2, DVI-I and HDMI 1.4a. The computer weighs 5,5 kg, its dimensions are 419x286x57,9-62,1 mm.

The Panther 5 starts at $3200 and goes up to $20 in the highest configuration.
