Quite often, to implement electronic ballasts operating from low-voltage power supplies, they use single-ended boost converters. Virtue of these converters is the low cost of implementation. Among the various circuits, the single-cycle self-oscillating converter is distinguished by its utmost simplicity, the circuit of which is shown in Fig. 3.71.

Electronic ballasts. Single ended converters
Rice. 3.71. Scheme of a single-ended converter

Consider briefly the principle of its work. Transformer T1 - linear choke; the intervals of energy accumulation in it and the transfer of accumulated energy to the load are separated in time. On fig. 3.72 shows timing diagrams explaining the operation of the converter.

When connecting the supply voltage UPete through the resistor R1, the base current of the transistor VT1 begins to flow.

The diode VD1 prevents the passage of current through the circuit of the base winding, and the capacitor C2 shunting it increases the positive feedback (PIC) at the stage of the formation of voltage fronts. The transistor opens slightly, the POS circuit closes through the transformer T1, in which the regenerative process of energy accumulation takes place. Transistor VT1 enters saturation. The supply voltage is applied to the primary winding of the transformer, and the current II (collector current Iк transistor VT1) increases linearly.

Electronic ballasts. Single ended converters
Rice. 3.72. The shape of the current in the transformer windings:

II - current of the primary winding of the transformer; III - current of the secondary winding; tн - interval of energy accumulation in the throttle; tп - interval of energy transfer to the load

The base current 1B of a saturated transistor is determined by the voltage on the winding III and the resistance of the resistor R2. When collector current Iк reaches the value

where h21э - static current transfer coefficient of the transistor VT1, the transistor exits the saturation mode.

A reverse regenerative process develops: the transistor closes, and the energy stored by the transformer is transferred to the load. After reducing the current of the secondary winding, the stage of energy accumulation begins again. Time interval tп maximum when the converter is turned on, when the capacitor C3 is discharged, and the voltage on the load is zero.

The circuit under consideration is a functional converter of the supply voltage UPete into the load current source tn.

It is important to note, since the stages of energy accumulation and its transfer are separated in time, the maximum collector current of the transistor does not depend on the load current, i.e. the converter is completely protected from short circuits at the output. However, when the converter is turned on without load (idle mode), a voltage surge on the transformer winding at the moment the transistor closes can exceed the maximum allowable collector-emitter voltage and disable the transistor.

Lack of the simplest converter - the dependence of the collector current Ito max, and hence the output voltage from the static current transfer coefficient of the transistor VT1. Therefore, the parameters of the power supply will differ significantly when using different instances of transistors.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

coffee protects the heart 04.07.2018

Four cups of coffee a day can help reduce the risk of a heart attack and help you recover faster from a heart attack. Caffeine also protects against type XNUMX diabetes and other heart diseases. Scientists from the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (Germany) conducted a study on mice, which helped to explain the reason for such a beneficial effect.

During the study, for ten days, scientists added to the drinking water of a group of mice an amount of coffee that corresponds to four cups per day for a person. They then artificially induced a heart attack in the rodents. Damaged myocardial cells in mice that received caffeine recovered better from an attack than those of mice that drank plain water.

The healing property of coffee is explained by the fact that caffeine stimulates the work of the p27 protein in the mitochondria - the "energy station" of the cell. Activating p27 in mitochondria increases the organelle's energy production, and this helps myocardial cells repair after damage, the team has shown. Humans and other animals also have the p27 protein, raising the possibility that caffeine may be good for the human heart as well. Normally, p27 controls cell division and suppresses the development of tumors. Its energetic role in mitochondria was not previously known.

The discovery goes against the grain of doctors' belief that coffee is contraindicated for people with heart disease, so it still needs to be scrutinized. In addition, researchers from a German university warn that frequent coffee consumption alone - without exercise and proper nutrition - will not bring many benefits and may cause health problems.

Can anyone tell me what the approximate capacity of C2 should be, if R1=100k, u=250V DC, R2=1 ohm, you need to get about 200 watts on the secondary.
