To power an electronic watch, and possibly other equipment made in the USA and some other countries, a voltage with a stable frequency of 60 Hz is required. In the presence of a quartz resonator at a frequency of 1966,08 kHz, it is not difficult to obtain it (see, for example, the article by V. Polyakov "60Hz Clock Power Converter"in "Radio", 2000, No. 3, p. 28). However, it is not always possible to buy such a resonator, so we recommend using a 60 Hz pulse generator, which uses a "clock" resonator at a frequency of 32768 Hz (see figure).

60 Hz from clock resonator

The master oscillator is assembled on the element DD1.2 according to the traditional scheme. Element DD1.1 - buffer. DDT.3 inverter, excluding the so-called "race" at the inputs of the element DD1.4. The up/down counter D02 for every 16 input pulses generates at its output P a low-level carry signal with a duration equal to the period of the input pulses. As a result, out of 16 pulses, only 4 pass through the DDI.15 element. The average signal frequency at the output of this element is 32768x15/16=30720 Hz. The DD3 chip divides this frequency by 512. and at its output 28 pulses are formed with a duty cycle of 2 (meander) and a frequency of 60 Hz.

As DD1, only microcircuits of the K561 and 564 series can be used, since elements of other CMOS series do not work in a crystal oscillator. The functions of the counter DD2 can also be performed by the K561IE14 chip, but then its input B (pin 9) must be connected to the positive power wire to set the binary counting mode.

The exact frequency of the generator is set by selecting capacitors C1 and C2. The frequency meter should be connected to the output of the element DD1.1. The fact is that the pulses at the output of the DD3 microcircuit are somewhat uneven in time. This does not affect the course of the clock in any way, but it interferes with the precise setting of the frequency when it is controlled (by the pulse period) at the output of the DD3 microcircuit.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Eco-friendly steam generator for desalination and water treatment 21.04.2020

In 2040, it is estimated that a quarter of the world's children will live in regions where clean and drinkable water is scarce. Seawater desalination and wastewater treatment are two possible ways to mitigate this, and researchers at the University of Linköping have developed a cheap and environmentally friendly steam generator to desalinate and purify water using sunlight.

The steam generator consists of an airgel that contains a cellulose-based structure decorated with PEDOT:PSS organic conjugated polymer. The polymer has the ability to absorb the energy of sunlight in the infrared part of the spectrum, where most of the solar heat is transferred. Airgel has a porous nanostructure, which means that a large amount of water can be absorbed into its pores. A 2mm layer of this material can absorb 99% of the energy in the sun's spectrum.

A porous and insulating floating foam is also placed between the water and the airgel so that the steam generator is kept afloat. The heat from the sun evaporates the water, leaving the salt and other materials behind.

The airgel is durable and can be cleaned, for example, in salt water, so that it can be used again. This may be repeated many times. The water that passes through the system by evaporation becomes very high quality drinking water.
