Due to the fact that a complex information exchange protocol is implemented in the USB interface, a microprocessor unit is required in the interface device with the USB interface, which provides support for the protocol. Therefore, the main option in the development of an interface device is the use of a microcontroller that will provide support for the exchange protocol. Currently, all major manufacturers of microcontrollers produce products that include USB blocks.

Figure 13 shows the USB bus connection to the ATtiny2313 microcontroller, which is used as a USB to RS232 interface converter.

USB devices

The USB data lines (DATA- and DATA+) are connected to the PBO and PB1 pins of the AVR microcontroller. A microcontroller operating as a low-speed USB device must have a pull-up resistor R1 on the DATA- line. The voltage Vcc coming from the USB port of the computer can vary in the range of 4,4 ... 5,25 V. Before it is supplied to the microcontroller and the pull-up resistor, it is stabilized by the DA1 chip at a level of 3,0 ... 3,6 V. The type of voltage regulator depends on the load. The regulator must be of the low dropout integrated regulator type (LE35 with 3,5V output voltage).

From time to time, a variety of original USB devices appear, which differ not only in unusual functions, but also in design.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Highly efficient electrocatalyst for clean energy 23.09.2023

A research team led by Professor Zhang Hua from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has made revolutionary progress in the field of nanomaterials, successfully developing a highly efficient electrocatalyst capable of significantly increasing hydrogen production through the electrochemical decomposition of water. This breakthrough has enormous potential for clean energy applications.

Professor Zhang Hua and his team used transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) nanoplatelets with unconventional crystalline phases as the basis for developing an electrocatalyst. This electrocatalyst showed high activity and excellent stability in the electrochemical process of hydrogen evolution in an acidic environment.

Professor Zhang said: "The results of our study are important because hydrogen produced by electrochemical decomposition of water is considered one of the most promising sources of clean energy to replace fossil fuels, thereby helping to reduce environmental pollution and the greenhouse effect."

A key aspect of electrocatalyst research for water decomposition was the selection of a suitable support capable of improving the activity and stability of the catalyst in the process. TMD nanoplatelets, as a new two-dimensional (2D) material, have attracted great interest from researchers due to their unique physical and chemical properties.

The team carried out systematic studies related to the phase growth of noble metals on 1T'-TMD and 2H-TMD nanosheets and demonstrated that 1T'-TMD nanosheets perform effectively as a catalyst.

The new synthesized electrocatalyst showed excellent activity and stability in the electrocatalytic decomposition of water in an acidic environment. This material promises to play a critical role in the development of clean energy in the near future.
