For everyday work on the air on KB bands and various experiments with receiving and transmitting antennas on an amateur radio station, it is advisable to have an antenna matching device. The use of such devices allows you to create a normal operating mode for the output stage of the transmitter (if the input impedance of the antenna is noticeably different from the output impedance of the transmitter) and thereby increase the overall efficiency of the radio station. In addition, in some cases, the antenna matching device can provide additional suppression of the harmonic components of the transmitter output signal, thereby reducing the risk of television interference.

Universal matching device

A diagram of an antenna matching device with wide capabilities is shown in Figure A. The desired configuration for connecting matching elements L1, C1 and C2 is created by connecting jumpers to the contact field formed by sockets X2-X19. A possible variant of placing these sockets on the front panel of the device is shown in Figure B. The distances between adjacent sockets horizontally and vertically (except for the distances between X2 and X7, X4 and X9) must be the same. This will make it possible to use only five identical jumpers to create any configuration of matching elements.

In addition to the P-loop (it is obtained by installing jumpers between sockets X11-X12, X3-X5, X8-X7, X13-X14, X17-X18), six more options for switching on elements can be implemented in this device. They are shown in Figures C - H and are obtained when installing jumpers: B - X3-X5, X7-X8, X11-X12; G - X3-X5, X10-X11, X8-X9; D - X3-X4, X6-X8, X10-X11; E - X2-X3, X6-X8, X11-X12; F - X3-X5; X10-X11, X14-X15, X16-X17; Z - X3-X5, X11-X12, X14-X15, X16-X17.

Each of these options for switching on elements provides coordination with the transmitter (output impedance 50 ... 76 Ohm) of loads with well-defined active (R) and reactive (X) components:

B - R < 50 Ohm, X < 0; G - R> 50 Ohm, X> 25 Ohm; D - R > 50 Ohm, X < 25 Ohm; E - R> 50 Ohm, X> 0; W - R < 50 Ohm, X > 25 Ohm; Z - R < 50 Ohm, X < 50 Ohm. These parameters are provided if the maximum capacitance of the capacitors C1 and C2 is 200 pF, and the maximum inductance of the coil L2 is 20 μH.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Green energy will cause a crisis of rare metals 19.03.2012

A study published in Environmental Science and Technology says that the switch to clean energy sources will cause a supply crisis for scarce metals. And these materials are very important for modern industry.

For example, two rare earth metals, dysprosium and neodymium, are key to modern wind turbine and electric vehicle technologies. A large-scale transition from coal-fired power plants and gasoline cars to windmills and electric vehicles could lead to an increase in demand for these two already scarce metals, which, moreover, are mainly mined in one country - China. Demand could grow by 600-2600% over the next 25 years, with today's dysprosium and neodymium production increasing by only a few percent a year.

Today, some governments and industrial companies are expressing concern about the sustainability of the supply of 17 rare earth elements, which are used to manufacture aircraft equipment, lasers, medical devices, and more. Without these materials, it is impossible to continue the development of environmentally friendly technologies and reduce the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to the level of 450 parts per million.

A team of scientists led by Randolph Kirchein analyzed the supply of lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium and yttrium under various scenarios for the development of the economic situation and progress. They predicted the demand for these 10 rare earths until 2035. In one scenario, demand for dysprosium and neodymium could increase by 2600% and 700% respectively. To meet this need, the production of, for example, dysprosium must double every year. Despite impressive progress in expanding the production of rare earth materials, it will be very difficult to achieve such a figure.

Scientists believe that the crisis can only be avoided by replacing rare earth materials with cheaper and more common ones, as well as by recycling waste.
