A microcircuit will get to a radio amateur - an assembly of low-current diodes, and he is at a loss - what would it be adapted to? Diodes would be more powerful for a rectifier bridge, but these? Let's tell you - such an assembly can play the role of ... a transformer in a pocket receiver, if you assemble the detector according to an unusual scheme with multiple voltage multiplication (Fig. 1).

The signal level at the output of such a diode-capacitive multiplier is noticeably higher than that of conventional one- and two-half-wave diode detectors. In addition, due to the greater input impedance, such a detector slightly loads the previous cascades of the RF amplifier and significantly improves selectivity. This is especially valuable for simple direct gain single-loop receivers. If in local conditions there is no need to increase the selectivity of reception, it is possible to significantly increase the number of turns of the coupling coil with the antenna circuit; a concomitant increase in the signal applied to the URF will in some cases reduce the number of amplifier stages. For better matching with such a detector, the first stage of the ultrasonic frequency converter should be made with an increased input impedance.

Those who would like to experiment with an unusual type of detector can assemble a simple radio receiver as shown in Figure 2.

Mounted in a small flat box, it can be your good companion. Let's talk briefly about the scheme. Transistor VT1 operates in the radio frequency amplification stage, allocated by the circuit LI, C1. Diode assembly DA1 together with capacitors C3-C6 forms a 4-stage multiplier. In the audio frequency amplifier, the first stage on the transistor VT2 provides an increased output impedance, VT3 - output, loaded with a BF1 phone. Three D-1 disk batteries or two or three elements 0,1 can serve as a power source for CD316.

Magnetic antenna rod made of ferrite grade 400NN or 600NN, 80-100 mm long. The coils are wound with PELSHO-0,2 wire, the number of turns is L1-70, L2-7. Fixed resistors of the MLT type - 0,125, radio frequency capacitors - KPM, KLS; oxide - K53-1. For tuning, it is better to use a miniature single-section KPI, but you can get by with a trimming ceramic KPK-2 with a maximum capacitance of 100-150 pF. Miniature telephone type TM-2, TM-4.

While experimenting with the detector, investigate the effect of the capacitance value of capacitors C3-C6 on the reception efficiency.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Internet cables become sources of electricity 08.09.2023

Researchers from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) and the Kitami Institute of Technology at Hokkaido National University have achieved an impressive feat in transmitting power over fiber optic cables. They were able to transmit power in excess of 1 W and transmit data over a distance of 10 kilometers. This achievable result broke the previous record, which was limited to 2 kilometers due to limitations in the fiber's internal optical intensity.

This experiment was carried out not only for fun, but also to demonstrate the possibility of using ordinary Internet cables to transmit electricity in areas cut off from power supply due to natural disasters. This opens up the prospect of quickly connecting critical infrastructure without having to wait for new cables to be installed or damaged networks to be repaired.

For this project, the researchers used NTT multi-core optical fiber (MCF technology), which provides compatibility with existing optical network infrastructure thanks to a standard glass fiber diameter of 125 micrometers. However, because stranded glass fiber contains several individual optical strands, each strand can be used for a different purpose.

This is exactly what the research team did. They integrated a 1550 nm light source into four optical cables. For data transmission, an additional wavelength of about 1310 nm was added to two of them, allowing data to be transmitted in both the downstream and upstream directions at a data transfer rate of 10 Gbit/s.

In the end, the researchers were able to transmit about 1 W of power over a distance of 14 kilometers, achieving a world record of 14 W/km for their optical power transmission system. Scientists say this is a simple and effective solution for delivering electricity over long distances with low power consumption and could have widespread applications in the future.
