While designing a machine for drilling printed circuit boards, I was faced with the problem of using a small-sized electric motor. We managed to find a brushless three-phase electric motor DID-5TA, but it required a supply voltage of 27 V with a frequency of 400 Hz. And then I had to develop a three-phase voltage generator, the diagram of which is shown in Fig. 1.

Three-phase current - it's very simple

The generator-shaper provides the necessary switching of the current in the windings of the specified motor, although it can be successfully used to control other three-phase stepper and synchronous electric motors, for example, ШД300/300, DID-0,5TA.

The elements DD1.1-DD1.3 are used to assemble a clock pulse generator that runs at a frequency f t (Fig. 2). They are supplied to a three-phase pulse sequence generator-former, made on microcircuits DD2, DD3 and element DD1.4. Counter DD2 generates sequences of pulses A, B, C, which are supplied to the “exclusive OR” elements (DD3.2-DD3.4). As a result, pulses F1, F2, F3 are formed at the output of these elements, which have precise and constant phasing. They control key cascades assembled on transistors VT1-VT6, and they, in turn, control the electric motor windings connected to the collector circuits of the transistors. The windings are shunted by diodes VD1-VD3, which protect the transistors from high-voltage “spikes” of voltage that occur when they are closed.

Three-phase current - it's very simple

Using variable resistor R2, you can smoothly change the frequency of the clock generator, and therefore the rotation speed of the electric motor shaft.

Instead of microcircuits of the K155 series, similar ones of the 133 series are suitable, but with a corresponding change in the printed circuit board drawing. Low-power transistors VT1, VT3, VT5 - any of the KT315 series, powerful ones (VT2, VT4, VT6) are chosen depending on the power of the existing electric motor. Diodes - any rectifier that can withstand a reverse voltage of at least 50 V. Variable resistor R2 - any small-sized one, constant - MLT-0,25. Capacitors C1, C3 - KM-5, KM-6, C2, C4 - oxide K50-16.

Most of the parts are mounted on a printed circuit board (Fig. 3) made of double-sided foil fiberglass 1 mm thick. The board is made by cutting insulating tracks (unnecessary sections of foil are removed). Capacitors C2, C3 are soldered directly to the printed conductors. The power conductors and connecting conductors going to the key cascades are soldered in the same way. The parts of the key cascades are placed on a separate PCB plate and connected to each other by hinged installation. These cascades can be located in close proximity to a machine equipped with a three-phase electric motor.

Three-phase current - it's very simple

The device is powered from two sources: a stabilized voltage of 5 V (current consumption 65...70 mA) and an unstabilized voltage of 27 V (current consumption up to 0,6 A), but with a smoothing capacitor with a capacity of at least 1000 μF.

The only operation to set up the device is to select resistor R1 and capacitor C1 to obtain the required limits for changing the speed of the electric motor shaft.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Firefox Smartphone ZTE Open 20.08.2013

Chinese mobile phone manufacturer ZTE plans to start selling the ZTE Open smartphone on eBay soon. The device was announced in early July and became the first commercial device running Mozilla's Firefox OS operating system.

According to Mozilla's website, Firefox OS smartphones are "targeted for first-time smartphone buyers." "Firefox OS-based smartphones are the first fully web-based smartphones. Buyers of these smartphones get the personalization and performance they need at the price they want, along with a beautiful, simple and intuitive user interface," the site says.

ZTE Open is equipped with a 3,5-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal memory, as well as a 3,2-megapixel camera. The package includes a 4 GB microSD memory card that can be placed in the device.

Firefox OS offers all the features a consumer expects from a smartphone, Mozilla says, including: the ability to make calls and use SMS messages, work with e-mail, access Facebook and Twitter, the ability to take pictures with the built-in camera and use navigation. In doing so, they also get the Firefox web browser and access to the Firefox Marketplace app store.

The ZTE Open will be available on the US and UK eBay websites for $80 and £60 respectively. The devices will be sold without any local services as they will target the global market.
