The Ts215 indicator was widely used in various household equipment, for example, autotransformers, to control the mains voltage. Its basis is a linear gas-discharge indicator IN-9, connected to the network through a half-wave rectifier. The height of the luminous bar of the indicator is proportional to the voltage. The indicator itself is clearly visible in a darkened room, but the risks applied to its body are almost invisible, which makes it difficult to control the voltage.

If such control is important, it makes sense to refine the indicator and make some lines glowing. Use multi-colored LEDs as marks, placing them in the case so that they shine through small holes. And holes are drilled or cut in places corresponding to critical voltage values. For example, a green LED can be installed where the column height corresponds to 220 V, and two red LEDs can be installed in places corresponding to 200 and 240 V.

The LEDs can be connected in series with the gas discharge indicator (Fig. 1). True, in this case a small current flows through them, so the brightness of the glow is low. But when using LEDs with increased light output, it will be enough.

If you need to increase the brightness, it is recommended to use another option for connecting LEDs (Fig. 2). Now the positive half-wave of the mains voltage is supplied to the gas discharge indicator, and the negative half-wave to the LEDs. It is not difficult to set the desired brightness by selecting the resistor R2.

Refinement of the Ts215 indicator

If you do not have a Ts215 indicator, but have an IN-9 gas discharge device, the mains voltage indicator can be assembled according to the diagrams given by placing the parts in an insulating material case.

The name "Tachyon" refers to a hypothetical particle that travels faster than the speed of light. Nb is an abbreviation for the exotic metal niobium and is widely used on motorcycles. Tachyon Nb originated as a joint project between Lightning and the Brazilian company CBMM, the world's largest producer of niobium.

“We are introducing niobium brake rotors,” explained Daniel Wright, CBMM engineer and project lead, “to improve high temperature performance, several niobium components in the onboard charger to allow the entire system to be more reliable and efficient, and finally , steel tubes containing niobium in the swing arm and chassis, which allows us to meet the strength and weight requirements."

Niobium alloys can strengthen metal components as well as increase the effectiveness of the magnetic properties. This allows weight to be reduced and other parts to be miniaturized that would not otherwise be possible.

The charger has reduced weight by about 9 kg using this metal without losing power or overheating.
